13 Ways Of Looking At A Fat Girl by Mona Awad
it's by far, one of the sharpest books I have ever read.
a skinny colleague enjoying fat meals for lunch and asking, why the main character only eats salad; a loser of a man abusing her lack of self-respect; such great deal of pressure put into losing weight - and even more, into keeping this newly-acquired figure ... it's all in there! loved this book so much - a total recommendation for all fans of satirical books.
:-) have just finished the homework part as well. great questions!

The Vegetarian by Han Kang
Have reported & did my homework.
183 pages of Korean craziness. As much as I had loved my first Toppler book, this one was weird and eerie. It felt like watching a Korean horror movie. - The story basically deals with the main character, a rather introverted wife, having one bad dream and from this day on, she stops eating meat, cheese, milk, fish. In addition, she refuses to sleep and gets thinner, and thinner.
In the course of the story which switches the narrator in its second and also third part - Han Kang does not shy away from showing the machoistic society in Korea, husbands who take sex when they need it, lack of empathy and also, the pressure put on a married woman by her own family.

High-five! to Sharon :-)

Thanks Caecilia.
With these weighty topics, I'm having a difficult time matching the artwork to the theme. Just have to go with any picture at times, so obscure references.

By the way,
reporting: I have just finished my third Toppler book.
I have also done my homework.
Missoula: Rape And The Justice System In A College Town by Jon Krakauer
If my emotions could be expressed in colours, it would be all red in here. Reading this book, particularly me being female, it has made me so angry - Krakauer has picked four rape cases that have occurred in Missoula. He gives the reader a step-by-step chronologic summary of the complete event and what has happened after it, states police reports and also goes into detail of showing how the individual cases were handled from the jurisdictional perspective. - What leaves me utterly frustrated is how the victims are being treated (often, with lack of empathy and being asked terrible questions) and how their lives are being affected long after the actual event.

Girl! You are on fire!☺

Postponing homework. Just want to read right now.

**grin*** I (Alex) have lots more, but they are going to be harder and harder to match up with everyone's topic.
Do you think Tony is a Nigerian Tiger? Does Tony the Tiger ever come to the Netherlands?

Blackass
Homework also - done :-)
A weird read, to say the least. Furo, the main character wakes up on the day of his job interview, noticing that he has turned white (exc. for his butt). - In parallel, Igoni, a writer turns into a woman, except for her genital parts. Both meet and have an impact on each other's life.

haha .. thanks. I try to be picky with the choice.
if a book really grabs me, I can read for hours.
"Missoula" was challenging for me as it was a non-fiction book.
