We adjust points based on how many books we expect each team member to read, so if a team member hasn't posted any reviews, we won't take them into account. It's a way to try and make things fairer for teams who have missing members ☺

I just want to make a comment and hope not to offend anybody. In the future, please read the rules when joining a group...

Serious=12 books or more a month

Medium=8 to 12 books
Fun=any number...

It's unfair to other group members when the rules are not followed.

CInthia, I understand your frustration, I really do. It's happened to me quite a few times when a team member vanished without a trace.

However, I also know that, sometimes, life gets in the way. Be it a simple reading slump to a loved one passing away. In these cases, I don't expect the person to keep reading regardless of what's going on, but just try and drop a line so we can try to plan around it

I admire the mods' work with these challenges, adjusting scores to try to compensate for the missing members, messaging them and all that.

I think they should just withdraw, when they see they can't read as many books as needed and move to medium or fun groups.

I agree with the issue too :) I'm fine with life getting in the way, but it'd be nice if they let the team know, so they can plan around it, or in the case of this challenge, work on getting that person's claimed letters done

Not to offend anyone but just my two cents on the matter... I do think people really need to consider their own reading speed before they sign up for these challenges. 12 books a month is basically at least one every 2-3 days and some joining serious don't seem like they have ever read at that speed.

Yes, life can get in the way and anyone could have a bad month but it would make sense if that were the case they could pop in and ask Sarah to move them or at least give their team notice. It only takes the fun out of it for those that sign up and truly do their best.

For me personally, I haven't read a bunch yet for my serious team but that was because of school and people like me can read books really fast and that's what I'm going to be doing...

Yea I completely understand that Katherine, and that's perfectly fine, as long as your team knows that. If someone has read no books or only 1, but hasn't said they're a fast reader and will read all 12 in a week or near the end of the challenge, we're just all worrying on how we're gonna make that person up

Exactly! That's why I say that communication is key. Some people only post reviews on weekends, for instance, due to work/school. But if I don't know that, of course I'll worry that person is MIA. However, if the person posts that she can only be on Goodreads during the weekends, then I'll rest easier

Sorry guys, we still haven't worked out a way to deal with members who don't read as many books as they say they're going to. We're just as stuck as you guys really.
