I agree that you shouldn't have to start out with just for fun. My first challenge on here was Minesweeper and I did serious. I was deeply involved and if I had had to start out with fun, I probably would have backed out of the group.

What it comes down to is people need to be more self-aware when they sign up, they need to be realistic, and understand what they're real reading habits are.Not to call anybody out, but I noticed somebody signed up for next month challenge serious level, and they've been on a serious team with me twice and have never even read the 8 Book minimum, that we previously had,
My first and actually and every challenge was a serious one, I never was in the fun team, so I don't agree with that one that you first time should be only for fun.I love this group, and admins, and challenges, everything is amazing and really fun, and we all see that you girls do the best job here, to make this as good and interesting as possible, for us. So, thank you for that.
But the participants should understand, that team challenges are for teams, and teams should have a teamwork and communication.
And I understand that life gets on the way sometimes, of course it does, but when that happens, when you don't want to read, or you realise that you can't read as much as the goal requires, you should tell admins and your teammates, and change to medium or fun, there is nothing to be ashamed of it, actually after that you neither will drag your team down, nor torture yourself.
BUT, I agree that there should be some kind of "punishment". Because it's in our human nature, that as long as we get away with something we keep doing it. So I think like banning them to be in a serious team or medium team(not from the challenge itself) for 1 month only maybe will teach them to work harder or choose wiser which team to choose while participating? Putting a limit on serous teams is a good idea too, but I don't know how it'll work tbh.

That is exactly why I won't sign up for April's challenge. I don't know what will happen, but it's quite likely that I will be moving, so my reading time will be heavily compromised. It's all about taking a step back and thinking about what will happen in your next month.

Very well said and I completely agree. It comes down to as a long as there aren't consequences it will likely continue month after month. It would be completely fair that no matter what the circumstance you knew in advance that it would mean sitting out the next month. I always think before I sign up and sit out if I think I won't be able to stick to the categories or may not have the time to compete etc.
A simple hard and fast rule for everyone would be easy to track and really should not offend anyone when enforced as it's not a personal challenge but a team one so whatever the situation they should know their team was left in the lurch for that month. Things happen and if it were me I would feel horrible about leaving my team hanging and expect to move the next month.

Some pe..."I think that's why there's so many here airing out their frustrations and asking for new rules. My mind is boggled as to why bowing out for a month when you have things come up is such a big deal but the problem is they won't do it on their own so the rest of the team members are becoming frustrated and it's going to end up with the real readers being turned off from joining thinking it will just end up stressful and frustrating no matter what level they pick. :(

I think everyone is having fun!!!And having done these challenges over the past year, and loving them all, I think it all balances itself out ultimately, some months you have amazing teams and other months things just happen :-)
Tbh I love team challenges, and I participate only in team challenges, cause it's more fun to work and read with others.I thought there was a solo option, or used to be(?)
But I, myself, won't enjoy going solo in these challenges(except mega month's not-reading one :D ) it's kind of boring for me, doing solo I mean, but I love being part of a team, working with people, and having fun while doing it, and people should understand that if they are doing this, then they should communicate with their teammates and respect them as well.
And Sarah, no worries we enjoy it!!! ☺️
Even with the issues, I've been having tons of fun this month!! I love the rest of my team, and the challenge made for this month was so creative :) I'm sure everyone's enjoying it still, there are just some issues that seem to bothering some of us. But you're doing an amazing job, so don't worry!

I find it quite sad that just for fun Team M is beating 4 of the 5 serious teams along with almost all of the medium teams outscoring the serious teams.
That's because we have adjusted scores though, so they've been drastically lowered from what we actually have
They have 86 points but they last place serious team is 112.
I think you can only compare the real score, not the adjusted score.The adjusted score is based on how many books the members of the team have read so far this year, so the serious teams should have lower adjusted scores.
Yes, but I'm also thinking that points shouldn't have to be adjusted for all of us, lots of problems this month which makes that fun team and most mediums look awesome and a serious fail for serious teams. LOL
I always feel a bit bad for my team on adjustments because I read a lot of graphic novels so my books read for the year is high but I can't use over 1/2 of them for the challenges. Plus some months I read a lot more or less than others for the challenge, depending if what I have works for the challenge vs free time I have. So one month I can read 20 books and the next barely scrapping by with 8-9 books

That's really weird though :( I think it's because most of the serious teams have members who've turned in only one or two books, but then still are counted in the calculations and all
