The depth of the story surprised me, primarily because you hear of "Frankenstein" (and its many iterations) being centered around a crazy scientist who brings a lump of dead flesh to life, the story actually centers around Frankenstein's life almost like it's a biography, with the creation of the monster only being part of the story.
