Denise (kitsune816) | 516 comments Woohoo! Can't wait to start. :)

I played this last time but the tasks for the cards have changed quite a bit and made it a bit more challenging. Some of the letters like I and V aren't super common but we'll figure it out. I've been reading the In Death series and those all have an I character, and I have some books with V characters as well.

I'll get everyone's books added to the spreadsheet later this afternoon - I put some of them on our tracking sheet already but I'll finish that and start filling in the hands. I'll post in one of the first posts which cards are left open so we can see what's really needed. But basically we can fit all books somewhere so we'll just rearrange as needed. :)

I really did mean to do all of this over the weekend haha, but I had friends come in from out of town at the last minute and interrupt my GR time. :P

Denise (kitsune816) | 516 comments Okay guys, post #7 in this thread has the total number of each card that we have for the month. As we start filling in hands I'll edit in how many we've covered so we can tell at a glance what we need to be looking for. :)

Our hands are actually pretty even, with around seven of each card. The only ones we don't have many of are 0 (only 3) and both of the wilds. The cards we have most of are One and Eight (8 each).

Edit: Everything up to here has been added to the book tracking tab, with whatever information has been posted or that I could find on the GR page. Once you guys have actually read the books and post that you're finished, just let us know if there are any additional categories that they might work for (since you probably won't know all of the settings/characters before reading :)) That way Maria Helena or I can add that info to the spreadsheet and we'll have it if we end up needing to move things around later in the month! I'll get everything added to the hands in the morning. :)

I also added a few of the books I know I'll be reading this month:

New York to Dallas (In Death, #33) by J.D. Robb Indelible (Grant County, #4) by Karin Slaughter Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) by Sarah J. Maas I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent, #1) by Barry Lyga Bad Romeo (Starcrossed, #1) by Leisa Rayven Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I'll have some more to add tomorrow once I look through my books, and will figure out more as I go depending on other challenges and what we need to fill in here. :)

Denise (kitsune816) | 516 comments Got sucked into my first book and neglected the spreadsheet, lol. I'm adding all of our books into hands now! Trying to cover the more difficult cards like the Draw 2's and Reverse first.

Also finished my first book, New York to Dallas (In Death, #33) by J.D. Robb , and read a decent chunk of my second book, Indelible (Grant County, #4) by Karin Slaughter so I will probably finish that one tomorrow. :)

Edit: I entered about half of the books we have listed so far, and updated post #7. I'll get the rest in tomorrow! We have all of the Draw 2 cards covered already, at least! :)

message 76: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 516 comments Updated to here, though I need to add the books from post 74 to the book tracking tab and then the hands.

I completed two more books, Indelible (Grant County, #4) by Karin Slaughter and The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia, #6) by C.S. Lewis . :)

As for which cards are the most difficult...I don't really know, to be honest. The tasks aren't the same as the last time we played this game - they were changed up quite a bit to make it a bit more challenging. I mentioned I and V because I thought they'd be the more difficult letters for me to find personally, but then I found several books that would work for each, lol! Post #7 shows what we've filled in for the hands so far and what we still need, if you just want to take a look there to see what is open. So far we have multiple options for every card and seem to be doing very well! We also have the draw 2 and reverse cards completely covered for the month. :D

I'll finish updating the spreadsheet tomorrow with Ora's POFM books and then finally post some more of my planned books for the month!

message 77: by Karla (new)

Karla If I am reading the spreadsheet correctly, it looks like I have read three books. Why is that?

message 78: by Denise (last edited Mar 04, 2016 03:03AM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 516 comments Hmm. Okay, I checked the sheet and no, we don't have you reading three books yet. I have To the Nines on there since you mentioned you were reading that as your first book, so that's on the book tracking tab and I've also put it into a spot in hand 10.

I'm using that book to cover the Draw 2 card in that hand so it is listed 3 times - for the 9 (ninth in series) and reverse (I've read it) and then the draw 2 spot.

I still have some books to add in yet, but basically as people post that they will be reading books I put them into the book tracking tab and a spot in the hands as well. That way we can see what's covered and what's still open. Once you post that you've finished a book I will mark the completed date and add the points. Nothing is locked in until after the end of the month, so if we don't finish all of the hands (or if anyone ends up not finishing or changing something they had planned to read) I can move around or delete books as needed up through the end of March. :)

Under the members tab, in the March book column, it has a three for me. But, I think that is because my first book will cover three of the cards in the hand, now that I think about it.

You're right. It's because the same book is listed 3 times (the formula is just counting how may times your name is in column C).

Hey Ora! I have this filling in a draw 2 in another hand (same cards!), but just in case we end up having to move things around later in the month would it fit for any other cards? Just figured I'd check since I know some of the characters in this series would cover some of the more difficult letters but I have no idea if they actually make an appearance in this book! That's what I figured! :) I was just asking if the book would fit for any other cards? We're keeping track of all cards each book will work for in a separate tab, for when we have to rearrange books/cards a bit later in the month. I am not this far into the series so I don't know which characters make an appearance in the book, I just know that there are characters in the world that would cover some of the more difficult letters if we end up needing it. :) (Basically, I know Cat/Bones won't work anywhere but wasn't sure if Ian and/or Vlad showed up in the book at some point. ;))
