Brandon Varnell | 1 comments Hello. I'd like to ask question about ratings. I have a book that is currently available for pre-order. It's not out yet, and the only person who's read it is my editor. However, someone has given it a rating. While I don't mind ratings, be they 5-star, 3-star, or even 1-star, I do have problems with people rating a book that they couldn't have possibly read. Is there any way to remove the rating, or is there nothing that can be done?

lethe | 16359 comments No, sorry. Goodreads allows ratings for books yet to be published.

This is not a question for the Librarians Group by the way. We only deal with book records. In the Feedback Group there are numerous threads on the ratings policy, but GR staff have said more than once they are not going to change the policy.

Also, if you search, you'll find this topic comes up again and again. The answer remains the same: it is allowed and there is nothing to be done.

Brandon Varnell | 1 comments Thank you. I'll read the arguments, though I'm not as interested in why it can or can't happen. I just wanted to know since it's never happened to me before. I guess I simply never expected someone to rate a book when no ARCs have been given out and no version of this story exists anywhere online.
