I'm finishing the All Soul's Trilogy with The Book of Life. I found it at the library recently, but I had to re-read the first two again. A lot of vampire romance cliches, but I enjoy the historical aspects.
A friend of mine and I are reading The Crown of Embers. I'm meh on it so far, but I'm still very early in.Started Dan Rhodes' Gold this morning, since I really loved his This Is Life a year or so ago. I forgot how much I loved his writing style.
I'm hoping to finish up Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin, tonight. I'm also reading The Girls from See Saw Lane by Sandy Taylor.
Currently reading Roots by Alex Haley. Pretty disappointed to find out after I got involved with it that parts of the book are plagiarized.
Currently reading Twisted Sisters by Jen Lancaster which according to goodreads is TERRIBLE but since she is one of my favorite authors i'm giving it a chance. i'm only 30 pages in so no verdict yet.
Read so far:To Reign in Hell - If you like heretical Christian fiction, I'd recommend it. Retold version Lucifer's "fall" from heaven that would make most Fox News viewers seethe.
Mythology - Good cliff notes version of lots of myths in different cultures, gives you a taste so you see if any place in particular catches your interest. The visuals are neat too. I wish they'd stressed myth variants more though- no one myth was the "true" version to that culture. And they went with the "these pagans actually believed all their gods were different faces of one god" a little too often. I could rant more on this and mythology more in general, but I'll spare you.
Sunshine I wanted to like this... I really did. The main character felt like a non-entity and there were tons of plot holes. Lots of side plots the author started and then just left unanswered. It seems like it should the first of a series... but this author wrote a long winded blog post about how she's too good to write sequels and everyone needs to stop asking her about it.
To Read:
Nos4ra2- started it yesterday but not sure I'm going to make it. Child serial killer and all... becoming a parent made me the biggest wuss with that stuff.
Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth
The Song of Achilles
Balm: A Novel
Sorry for basically just reviewing books here... I should actually just go leave reviews lol.
I'm reading Of Noble Family to finish out the Glamourist Histories series (at least, what's written). I think we also need to finish the reading we'll be doing in Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead for class, and I won't be reading anything more than required because this book isn't doing a thing for me.I'm not sure what I'll read next. I picked a book called Ghost Gifts as my February free Kindle book, so I may read that one. Last night I had thought I'd start The Dinner next, but I just saw on Amazon that it was called "a European Gone Girl", and I hated that book with a passion, so I may have to rethink that...
I finished Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin and rated it 4/5. I'm still reading The Girls from See Saw Lane but making good progress. Also recently started reading The Mapmaker's Children.
Along with the first three installments of Sharing Space (I ended up DNF'ing), I read Kings Rising (which I'd been waiting quite a while for and was super disappointed in...), Unbuttoning the CEO, The Celestial, Falling Stars.I just finished We Should All Be Feminists, which I absolutely loved. I was expecting an academic essay, so I was pleasantly surprise.
Next up, I'm going to be buddy-reading Status Update. Not sure what I'm going to pick up after that, though.
