I was hoping someone can help me find a book! From what I remember the heroine is an unusual shifter and you don't really find out what she is until the end. The Hero is part of this shifter compound (I believe he has a daughter) and does NOT want to claim the heroine as his mate. He rejects her over and over and pledges to marry another woman who he deems more appropriate. There is a scene where she helps prepare a dinner for his parents who are going to visit, but the hero throws it all out and she runs away. If anyone remembers, I would appreciate it!! Thanks!

When did you read it? Paper book, ebook, other format? Established publisher or indie publisher? Cover art or photo? Author male or female? Standalone or part of a series?
Sounds to me like HE isn't good enough. Sorry, I don't know your book. However, I will mention that there are several groups on GR devoted exclusively to PNRs and UFs. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... is the feed for one of them. (Sorry, it's the only one that I'm a member of, so it's the only one that I can find right away.)
However, this group is also really good at finding books, because we have a wide ranging membership. If no one is able to ID it for you right away, just bump the thread up every 30 to 90 days or so.
