Welcome to Hangman, Natalie! Have you played many word games or watched much Wheel of Fortune on TV? I have and so I'm not sure how well I can describe how I come to my guesses, but I'll give it a try. The most common vowels in English are A and E; the most common consonants are H, N, R, S, and T. These are listed alphabetically, not in order of frequency. I generally make a list of all the letters that have not been guessed yet, and place it alongside the unfinished quote and the list of letters guessed. I then try out unchosen letters to see if they fit into the blanks to make words that seem to make sense. It's a bit of trial and error, and like most things, gets easier the more one does it. I hope this might give you a place to start.
I've saved the trickiest quote by a famous author about books for last.
It's a short one.

Let's start with I.

Lanelle, has there ever been a puzzle in which the man was hung before the puzzle was solved?

Nope.

There's a first time for everything :)

I kind of wondered about that. But there are usually H's in quotes, too.

I finished 44 Scotland Street last night by Alexander McCall Smith. Is the a 4? No, seriously, is there an S? (I'm assuming I can't guess an F for 44).
I'm honestly not sure what to do with the '44'. I'm trying to remember what libraries do with a number at the beginning of a title. I think they order them numerically.
Anyway, any suggestions for numbers in the future? Spell out the number?
Erica, there is just one S.

Most of the other groups go for the spell out - that way I was able to use '1st to Die' for F in most of my challenges.

Sounds logical. I'll add it to the rules. Thank you.

That was the last of the 'book' sayings. I was thinking about finding a special quote for New Year's. Erin was nice enough to send me one. It is three lines from a poem. I think you can see that I've arranged the Hangman guessing blanks by the three lines. (At least I hope it makes sense :)
The quote has been posted.

But...but...I found it on the internet (actually Goodreads)! It must be true :)
Thanks, Kathy. Truth is always better.
And there are 2 Ms in the quote.
