I had this book on my book shelf about 15 years ago. It was the first book in a series about two sisters in colonial Australia. One of the sisters was friendly and nice and the other one was prickly. They meet two men who are cousins and both men fall in love with the nice sister but then she dies from lockjaw. In the end of the cousins end up with the prickly sister. I think the prickly sister's name was Pearl. There is also an aboriginal man who intersperses the story with stories that have been passed down through the generations. I think the book ended up with their cattle station being attacked by bush rangers..
If you can work out what this book is I will love you forever but I think this is a hard ask!
