OK, I'm getting used to Goodreads. There are some nice things at Goodreads but some things I would like to bring here from Shelfari. How are the rest of you soon to be ex-Shelfarians doing?

Robin Horrible. I miss the organization of Shelfari and being able to switch up how I want to look at my books. All of my tags came over as different shelves and it's going to be a lot of work to get it all straightened up. Not every book came over either. I'm sad.

I hate that they call 'tags' shelves. I also want the option to have 'nested' discussions. I hate having to read 'Koren said Robin said Koren said' before I get to the new part of the discussion and having a reply to a discussion at the top be way at the bottom.

On a more positive note, I like being able to add a picture of the book and a link to my discussion.

Robin The picture is the thing I like too. I'm more likely to spot a highly recommended book if I know what the cover looks like!

You can delete the previous part of the thread in the comments section. They really do need to discover the difference between tags and shelves though. It's really messy.

The word cloud - they need to do that here!

Selina (literatelibrarian) | 3104 comments I know another person in our group wanted everyone to go onto leafmarks but I don't think shelfari was linked up to leafmarks, they just sent everyone to goodreads.

I'm not really impressed with leafmarks, just seemed like a plainer version of shelfari, it didn't look like it had the cute wooden bookshelves.

Karen Jones (goodreadscomkarenj) | 6 comments I've been on Goodreads for months now but I prefer Shelfari. I've tried a few times to export books from there, but it hasn't worked. I was able to download a CSV file at least.

You do, at least, get the drop down menu of the tags/shelves you've previously used. If you don't want to scroll through hundreds of them, however, you can simply start typing in the blank box at the top of that drop down menu and it will immediately bring up tags/shelves that you've used before. If you haven't used a particular one previously, you have the option to add it to your list .

For example: If I wanted to use the tag "rich" .. I would start typing rich and it would prompt me with add 'rich' shelf ... I would click on that yellow highlighted message and voila! The next time I wanted to use that tag, it would already be in my list.

Of course, this is not quite the same as the Shelfari tag cloud which was all the tags that various members had used for that book, but it's better than scrolling through hundreds of different tags to find the one(s) you want.

Hope that helps.

Fishface | 2015 comments AND the book covers are too small here. I hate that. It's saving me money, because they're not as eyecatching and I'm less likely to order a used copy of something from Amazon, but it still makes this site look so...drab.

And all the work I did over there adding books to their database, uploading covers, you name it...it's all gone like Shawn.

It's so sad. I didn't even try to move all my info over to this site. I didn't really have the time and my heart wasn't into it. I just noticed that my 'dates read' didn't transfer over to this site.
