message 301: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Tyler (doulton) Hi everyone! I only recently learned about this group. I love to read but admit that my choices are very limited: As an English teacher, I reread the same things all of the time. I like to read the classics, poetry, and then I like to re=read them. I want to break loose and discover some new sorts of books and perhaps some new genres. Right now I am in another challenge and am reading outside my comfort zone and enjoying it considerably.

My user name is Doulton---he was a cat. My "real name" is Natalie. In addition to reading, I like to travel but don't have any travels planned. I spent 5 weeks in London in May-June and consider myself very lucky!

I am looking forward to playing the game with you!

Welcome, Natalie!!! I think you've come to the right place. And I'm sure you will bring a lot to the group as an English teacher. Many of us also enjoy classics. But we will give you a chance to try some new genres (and perhaps classics in the making) for sure.

Sounds like you've had a great summer so far - - we look forward to getting to know you. I think we have some fellow travelers here too!

Natalie Tyler (doulton) Yes, I am in the Olympic reading challenge and I am on your team, Jen!

I found out about this group from the Olympic Reading challenge, in fact.

Thank you to all for the welcome messages.

Jen | 1545 comments Natalie wrote: "Yes, I am in the Olympic reading challenge and I am on your team, Jen!"

Actually, you're not on my team. I'm the Jen who is organizing the challenge. You have a Jennifer on your team with the same initials as me. It's all very confusing. I'm actually helping out on a different team :)

message 313: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Tyler (doulton) Oh, I see! Sorry about the confusion! Right now I am totally baffled. It's a world of Jen's out there!

message 314: by Jen (last edited Jul 25, 2016 05:57PM) (new)

Jen Hi! I'm Jennifer (just to add to your confusion, I am none of the Jen's you previously discussed - lol) and I am on the Goodreads Olympic Challenge, and one of my team members is from this group. She told me about it and I thought it sounded cool, so here I am! I'm from Michigan and have a 2-year-old son that I'm currently potty training, so I'm exhausted and cranky always. :) And my husband is Australian. He works from home and I'm a stay at home mom, so lots of reading time.

message 315: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 3525 comments Welcome Jennifer! We can never have too many! I hope you enjoy the group.

Hi Jennifer!! So glad you have you join us - - sorry to hear you are always exhausted and cranky though ;). I remember those days I must say. Mine sons are young adults now, and I've moved from exhausted and cranky to constantly worried. Not sure which is worse, lol.

Hopefully you will find some respite here!!

even more confusing because all three of us are participating in some form of Olympics challenge and two of us share initials (J.P.) Welcome Jennifer! Glad you have you join us.

And welcome Katie!

Can't wait to tally participation points ;)

message 322: by Jen (new)

Jen At least I am not a JP - I'm a JM. So that should make it a bit easier. :) Out of curiosity, what are all the Jennifer's middle names? My husband is fascinated that every Jennifer we meet seems to be a Jennifer Lynn (like me), Jennifer Anne, Jennifer Marie, or Jennifer Leigh (Lee).

how do you want us to refer to ourselves for the scoring? I always just list Jen when I enter my name b/c that was what I was over at Shelfari although I realized here my name is Jen P.

message 325: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments So long as you stick with the same "icon/avatar" I'm pretty good - - especially if you use a picture of yourself! I just worry people will change that, and then I won't have any clue.

Generally, I am able to figure it out, but the BEST is if you can put your location in your profile. If I'm confused, I will look there and see where the person is from . . .which is usually a unique identifier I can actually remember.

message 326: by Denizen (new)

Denizen (den13) | 1138 comments Welcome to everyone old and new!

As a person who joined PBT about a month before Shelfari made their closing announcement, I was just starting to learn the regulars before the switch. Couple the move with new names, avatars, and new members, and I have been totally lost. I tell myself it will come.

If you can add an initial after your first name, it's much easier for me when doing the raffle scoring. I usually just go through the discussion list on the group page, it's easier than paging through all the reviews. We have several Nicole's as well as Jennifer's and a few Linda's - which is why I went back to my Shelfari name.

If an initial doesn't work, a distinctive avatar is helpful.

Just my two cents.

message 328: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1545 comments But there are two Jen Ps which is why I ask unless she is going by Jennifer P

I think it's impossible to hear about all (because maybe I don't remember about all of them), but maybe about few :)

Anita, I could connect learning with reading. It was quite funny, but I don't remember how I did it. I'm not literature major. :D

Kathy, I love that kind of reading adventures :) I think it's something to me.

The Book Sale Scrounger (weabooaristotle) | 1 comments Heyo, I'm Jessica - might be a little weird to call me Scrounger all of the time. ;)

My reading interests are all over the place, but mainly, I tend to enjoy graphic novels, YA books, and poetry. Recently I've been reading a ton of children's literature because I've been working in a children's library, so that's introduced me to a whole other spectrum of reading. That's been fun.

This group looked really interesting, and feeds into my basic love of recommending books, so that's why I joined. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
