Welcome, Kate!!!! So delighted to have you here with us, and please feel free to ask any questions you may have. A lot of us here are relatively new to Goodreads, but there are a few experts, and we are all learning quickly and helping one another.

In the meantime, I hope you will join us in February by reading a book that fits the theme of WWII.

Thanks for joining us!!

Hi, Kate, always great to meet more Kiwis ;). I'm not one, but went to university with a few. My kids were also a big fan of The Minstrel, a NZ children's singer.

Brandy (romansgirl) | 87 comments I am not new to the group but just realized that on GoodReads I'm Brandy....over at Shelfari I was RomansGirl.

I'm starting to get used to GoodReads but still find it a bit clunky and not as pretty. Oh well, we all have tooooo many books to read to continue mourning things lost.

This is a fun and very interactive group.

message 61: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments Oh how delightful! World War II. Only best books ever written… This year had the breathtaking Nightingale and All The Light We Cannot See. Other favorites from this era include Those Who Cannot Save Us, (Jenna Blum), Once We Were Brothers, Skeletons at the Feast, the Lost Wife, the Storyteller, and many more. I think At the Water's Edge (the new Sara Gruen) is also World War II. Throw in Winter of the World, from Ken Follett's amazing trilogy of last year. There are probably countless others, but these are the few that immediately came to mind. I'd be curious to see what others have chosen. Its a busy month for me, so forgive me if I don't join the fun for a month or two. Currently reading The Secret Chord, by Geraldine Brooks, which is quite good, and I have another 6 on my TBR for my upcoming vacation. Euphoria, Fates and Furies, After You, Our Souls at Night. I will be reviewing plenty when I return. Very interesting in this new Queen of the Night! Happy Reading Everyone!

message 62: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments It's great to have you, Amy, and we look forward to your return from vacation! Thanks for some great suggestions . . .and I know The Secret Chord was a hit around PBT so far. Can't wait to hear about Fates and Furies . . .dying to get to that one! Thanks so much for joining us!!!

Somehow I figured Brandy = RomansGirl, but I'm having some issues with others who have new names! Hoping more people identify themselves lol.

Welcome Amy! You've named quite a few books I've wanted to read for WWII but there are just so many day in Feb and I know I won't get to them all. I was hoping for Nighingale but I'm on a waiting list at the library. I'm looking forward to seeing your reviews and all when thing settle down for you.

As you well know, there are no idiot questions! Besides, you'd have to get in line with many of us (I'm at the head of it I swear) who are dealing with the learning curve from Shelfari to GR. We actually have to un-learn and learn anew! It's a two step process for me :-) Welcome to the group, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I contacted them about Wednesday and got an answer yesterday that they are working on cutting the file down to upload is small amounts. They assure me that they are working on it and sound sincere and expect to have my books in in a few days. My fingers are crossed for a good resolution!

Blueberry (blueberry1) Hi, I'm Blueberry. I've been on Shelfari, Goodreads, Leafmarks, and LibraryThing. Even tried Booklikes but as I don't have a book blog we were'nt very compatible. I ran across this group somewhere in my group wanderings. I am reading through all the discussion threads trying to figure things out.

Welcome, Victorian Reader! It will be great having your perspective on the classics here as many of us also enjoy them. I hope you find PBT a fun and easy way to expand your reading horizons, although I will warn you that it does terrible things to your "to be read" list . . .

Welcome to our group, Victorian Reader! It's amazing how many times you can get a Victorian book to fit a shelf/tag, although not always. However, I have found this a great place to step out of my reading comfort zone.

Welcome VR, you are definitely going to expand your reading with this group. I joined them on Shelfari in 2008, the first tag was "dragons" - I thought "oops, this may have been a mistake - I don't read books about dragons!" I did it anyway and found some good books with dragons that I totally enjoyed! I have expanded my reading in a hundred ways since then. Prepare to be wowed!
