I loved The Emperor's Soul and another short by him Sixth of the Dusk, oh and Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell. Pretty much everything I've read by him is amazing.

Completely agree, Helen, and the best thing is that I can rarely ever guess what will happen in his books, he always manages to surprise me, even after having read 11 books by him.
I haven't read Sixth of the Dusk or Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell yet, but I see that those are Cosmere novels. Have you read Mistborn: Secret History yet?

No, I've read the first four of those. I love the way his stories are so detailed and contained whether it's 100 pages or 1000.

Finished Those Who Hunt the Night. Rated it a four Star. I really liked this book. There are so many "bad" vampire books out there it’s really nice to read a good one. The story had elements of horror, fantasy, and steampunk. The main character James Asher is like a cross between James Bond and Van Helsing. Really loved the mystery, and plot twists and I loved Lydia Asher but I wished she would have been more involved in the book. Finally, loved the Frankenstein-esque twist at the end of the book. Overall, these vampires are killers, there are no glittery, loving types in this book. But for those who appreciate this type of vampire book I would highly recommend it. Starting The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge.

Scott (thekeeblertree) Will probably be finishing up Magic Bleeds - Ilona Andrews tonight. This series continues to kick serious booty and be very entertaining.

Will probably then jump into The Great Hunt - Robert Jordan to continue my WoT read

Love Ilona Andrews such entertaining reading.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finished Tea with the Black Dragon last night. Much more mystery than fantasy, but it was pretty good. I've moved on to the sequel, Twisting the Rope.

message 159: by Robin (new)

Robin | 56 comments I put aside my C.S. Friedman book to read one for a group I belong to. This book (I hate to mention the title!) is getting 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon, and for the life of me I can't figure out why! Two-and-a-half days of my life I'll never get back… Back to the good stuff!

message 160: by Dan (new)

Dan (TheGreatBeast) I'm almost done The Dragonbone Chair, really hoping to polish it off for next week so I can start The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski for another group read right at the beginning of March.

Love the series :)
Recently finished with The Complete Tawny Man Trilogy: Fool's Errand, The Golden Fool, Fool's Fate and I was totally hooked, impressive!!

Very cool! I may have to revist Hobb's work one of these days. I'd read her Assassin trilogy, and though I loved the first book, the last two left me feeling high and dry. Mind you that was many years ago now, might have a different opinion if I read them now.

Alissa, remember book one isn't topical of the series The Dragon Keeper

Charlton (cw-z) Today I begin the book Calamity:)

message 165: by Kyra (new)

Kyra Halland (kyrahalland) | 47 comments Early this month I finished reading The Bonehunters, book 6 in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. This is the first one in the series that I read on Kindle instead of paperback, and I finished it faster than any of the other five I'd previously read. Holding my Kindle and adjusting the font to something easy to read was a lot easier than wrestling with a 1200 page paperback and peering at that teeny tiny font with my not-so-young-anymore eyes. Loving this series, and looking forward to the rest of the books. For those who'll be reading Gardens of the Moon (book 1), the Malazan world is very different from any other fantasy world I've read. I struggled at first, then I realized I had to let go of expectations and preconceived ideas and trust the author to let me know what I needed to know when I needed to know it, and just enjoy the world, the magic, the story, and the characters - especially the characters - and now I'm hooked.

Now I'm reading The Magic Mines of Asharim, standalone epic fantasy (with romantic elements) in Pauline Ross's Brightmoon Annals. Enjoying it very much, as I do all her books. I'm also dipping into some classic westerns by Zane Grey, Max Brand, and others, for some research (and because they're fun).

I loved Malazan.

message 167: by Danielle (new)

Danielle I had read The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde quite a few years ago and wanted to continue the series, but never got around to it, so I decided to pick it up this month and I'm currently reading Lost in a Good Book and really loving it!

message 168: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) I loved Malazan as well! Probably has become my favorite series, can't wait for a reread

message 169: by Margret (new)

Margret City of Blades. Highly recommend even if you were on the fence about City of Stairs (as I was)

message 170: by Cecilia (new)

Cecilia (cecilia-reads) I just started to read Cinder by Marissa Meyer! It is soo good!!

Thanks for the recommendation. I really didn't care for City of Stairs. I know a lot of people liked the book but I can honestly say that I didn't get it. Maybe, just maybe I'll give City of Blades a chance. I just hate to add another book to my ever growing TBR list. I did say maybe. ;)

Tracey the Lizard Queen Finally got Morning Star from the library! Now to find more hours in the day...

I thought the Liveship Traders Trilogy was good. Sentient ships!

Alissa | 220 comments Helen wrote: "Alissa, remember book one isn't topical of the series The Dragon Keeper"

Ah, the Dragon Keeper is totally unrelated, there are new characters? I'm ambivalent about this part of the series because I liked the The Liveship traders, but I didn't love it. I absolutely want to read The Fitz and the Fool, and I wonder, can I safely skip the Rain Wild Chronicles series? Or, on the other hand, is it worth a try?

2-4 are very good.

message 178: by Jingizu (last edited Feb 27, 2016 10:54PM) (new)

Jingizu Well, February is almost gone, but I've been rereading the Crown of Stars series by Kate Elliott (on the last book now). I also read Science of Discworld IV in between.

@ Alissa - I would read the Rainwild Chronicles before reading The Fitz and the Fool. The two inter-connect and it will definitely help to understand some characters and events if you've read the Chronicles. I enjoyed the Chronicles, although there are definitely some flaws, it was also an interesting view on the way dragons think (and I love dragons! lol) as well as providing more information about the Elderlings and their relationship with the dragons.

Amy Sanderson | 129 comments Cecilia wrote: "I just started to read Cinder by Marissa Meyer! It is soo good!!"

I loved Cinder. I went into it not expecting much, because the YA I've read lately has been really hit-and-miss, but I was surprised by how good it was!

I've already started Gardens of the Moon for the group read, because I'm fairly certain it'll take me more than a month to read it! I've actually read it before, a few years ago, and I'm surprised how much of it I've remembered. And as Kyra mentioned above, they're much easier books to read in ebook, as I'm finding with a lot of epic fantasy these days. My paperback is staying firmly on the shelf this time!

Thanks Helen and Jingizu for the advice, I'll stick to publication order then. Hobb is rapidly becoming a new favorite of mine. In the meanwhile, I've read Sunset Mantle, a very interesting novella with a mature protagonist and a lush storytelling, both sad and hopeful.

Now I'm currently reading Jurgen and I'm enjoying it very much, it's comic fantasy with a lot of literary references, which I'm missing for the most part, but it's totally captivating.

message 181: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) Read The Red: First Light - Linda Nagata, the start of a pretty damn cool Sci-Fi trilogy. Will definitely finish this off soon, very intriguing.

Almost done with The Black Company - Glen Cook. Was hoping for a little more bad-assness since it was an inspiration for Erikson's Malazan. Having said that, I'm still enjoying it. Like the idea of one man of a mercenary group keeping records of their battles and travels.

message 182: by Jenna (new)

Jenna Kathleen (jennakathleen) I finished The Black Company a couple weeks ago and was pretty disappointed. Still looking forward to reading Gardens of the Moon though.

I'm excited to follow along with the threads in group, really liked the book even though it took some getting used to. The series became my favorite I've read by the end of it

message 184: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Francis Started reading Magician yesterday. For years I have always told people that I have read it...and I honestly thought I had. But when I started what I thought was going to be a re-read yesterday I quickly realised I had no recollection of this book at all! Maybe I have read other Feist novels...anyway, reading it now!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments I read them years ago. They are good reads, better than some of his later books in that world (my opinion of course).

message 186: by Jingizu (new)

Jingizu Agreed with Mike. Magician and Darkness at Sethanon are the only two Feist books I really loved. Of course also the Empire trilogy but that was co-written with Janny Wurtz.

I didn't really enjoy his later Midkemia books that much. Not enough to reread anyway.

message 187: by Alissa (last edited Feb 29, 2016 06:23AM) (new)

Alissa | 220 comments I loved the Empire Trilogy, and that led me to put more Feist on my TBR, though I initially picked it because I love Janny Wurts's solo works and I wanted to try the series she co-wrote.

I enjoyed all of the Feist I read, which was quite a lot. I've started The Dragon's Path
