Is this group superfluous?

So honestly when i created this group i personally did so with the intention of finding other people doing the challenge so that i could keep up with their reviews and such, and as you mentioned I wouldn't want to take anything away from the 52in52 group. If however, people here wanted to create something that could work in addition to the subreddit then that could work? Although, i haven't really used this site for long and don't really know what i'm doing. Kathryn, if you (or anyone else interested) would like to become a mod for this group, maybe together we could organise it a bit better and formulate something complimentary to the existing group?

I'm not sure what we could do here which wouldn't be better placed on the subreddit?

Would people be interested then in me opening a discussion thread for each of the books we read, similar to the one on the subreddit, where we can post quotes, or do whatever people want to add to the experience? Seriously anyone that has good ideas and wants to be a mod to implement them just ask. It would be nice to make this group more interactive, i just don't want to step on the subreddits toes.

I have absolutely no problem helping to mod and get things organized around here, but I definitely don't want to create a group that is just to my own tastes - so hopefully we'll get more feedback as things get going.
To be honest, I also mainly joined for the reviewing. Yes, I'd also like some discussion over here - the format appeals to my sense of order, but I feel like discussion is how we spark the interest in sharing reviews. I'm not motivated to write and post reviews if it looks like a dead group and I'm betting others feel the same. Why go to the effort, if you feel like you're shouting into the aether?
Anyway, I absolutely love the idea Samuel has for having a quotes page. Perhaps for each week, we should also make the effort to have a thread for posting reviews. One for each featured book and one for any other books you may be currently reading.
I certainly don't want to step on any toes over at the subreddit either, but I think we can come up with a few things to differentiate. We could even have a section for slightly off topic or strangely specific things - reviews of audiobook readers, opinions on which translation to read, suggestions for music to read to, deals on digital media, if you like ____ read ____, or even something as silly as a thread of excuses for being behind on your reading, or pictures of your over-stuffed bookshelves.
Polls seem to be quite easy to set up on goodreads, we may be able to find some fun things to do with that.
Granted, most of this is what I can think of that wouldn't replace the subreddit discussion off the top of my head and I haven't thought about too much yet. I'll try and brainstorm the next few days, as I recover and see what else I can come up with.
Okay Kathryn, I've made you a mod so feel free to implement anything you think could help liven up this group. Or if you have any ideas that you don't want to implement straight away feel free to message me with anything.
I'm going to start by adding a discussion for this week's book in the form of a quotes page, taking your ideas it could be a thread for people to record any quotes they want to discuss or just bring to people's attention. This could leave us with a fun list of quotes that are either; inspiring, depressing, goofy, of their time, out of context, or any number of possibilities.
Do you think it would be a good idea to open a thread on each of the books of the month in one go for those who read ahead, or should we keep it simple and just have a thread per week?

Do you think I should create a folder specifically for the quotes posts, or shall we leave all of that to the general discussion folder?
I think it would be a great idea to open a thread for each book of the month for those who read ahead!

I wish I'd seen this while we were reading The Princess Bride. There were so many quotes from it I highlighted without realizing that Kindle highlights don't save if it's a library loan :'(
Personally, part of the attraction of this group is that Goodreads allows for a different experience. I love scrolling through reddit, but sometimes the number of different threads start to annoy me. Sometimes I would really like to just be able to have a static setup and know exactly where each discussion is located when I want to check in on things, without having to save anything or use a search engine. It's really nice just to be able to KNOW where everything is likely to be, due to a division into categories. Sometimes I just don't want to get sucked into reddit all day, even if I'm in the mood for that style of displaying information.
What about the rest of you? What kinds of things are you hoping to get out of this goodreads group? Why did you join? Do you think participation here, stop you from checking the subreddit? Is this group simply superfluous?
