Feeling like retirement cannot come soon enough. I love my job and the people I work with, but sometimes it's not fun. What keeps me going is that if I retired now, I'd have to eat cheap cat food for the rest of my life.

I know what you mean Youndyc. I liked my job well enough (mostly great people) and it wasn't particularly over-demanding and I had a great deal of freedom.But one day, I just couldn't do it anymore. Period. And I retired that week. Never looked back. I'd have more money for sure if I had waited until "real" retirement age, but you know, I traded time for money and it was right for me.
I could happily retire. If I had some money to do so.
This morning I had a task to do for work that allowed me to sleep in. I left home at 9:00am, very very civilised!

I'm jealous, Gail! I'd love to sleep in a few days a week. I wonder whether, if I changed my work schedule, I would feel more energized with work? I've got lots of years left, and I'm of the opinion that that people need to shake things up from time to time. It isn't that I want to leave my job, and it isn't that I'm ready to stop working (I'm not!), but I could use a little change in the general pattern. Hmmmm... must brainstorm some ideas!
Can you switch it up and maybe work 10 hr day 4 day weeks or something? That might help. Or start at some unGodly hour like 6 am and get off early. A woman I used to work with did that. She liked it a lot.
The problem with starting early is no one else appreciates the work you do before they arrive. I start at 7:30am and leave at 5:30pm. I get the evil eye when I leave each evening. Yesterdays late start was a once off.
I start at 12.30pm and finish at 8.30pm. I get a taxi home every night and I never have to cook dinner!
MrG has similar hours to you Evie. He loves it. Me not so much.
I think I would like the 12:30-8:30 schedule. In earlier years, I was always a morning person, so I really liked the early schedule - and I voluntarily get in at 7:30 (we open at 8). I like the quiet of the office at that time, I can get my thoughts organized. But I'm not so much of a morning person any more, so it's such a grind. I think that more than anything else is what is wearing on me.
I still wake up and get moving fairly early, but I like to take my time.I chose these hours to suit our schedule while my daughter was growing up.
I like it at work too, because my day is varied . My work differs in the early part of the day and then the vibe changes when the business hours are finished.
Thank goodness it is Friday. I am feeling a little wrung out from trying to explain someone elses work to auditors. :'(

The snow is coming our way in the Midwest of the US. I think I'm 'below the line' of snow/rain. Not far from away, the prediction is 3+ inches!!!
Too soon for boots and all that good fun.

I handed out candy at my friend's house last night while we knocked back a bottle of wine. It was fun. The kids were cute.
I go to a friend's to hand out candy, too! It is so much fun to see all the little creatures. And the candy grabbers. It started raining at 9pm, perfect timing to keep the older kids from straggling in.
Haven't had roasted chestnuts since I was a little girl! Since I live in the desert, I have no idea where to get any either.):

Only slightly tipsy today. Weather put the kibosh on some boating plans with friends, so we opted for a pub crawl today instead. Either way, I was not going to work. It was very fun! And I love taking a Monday off work.
My dear MIL tried, many yrs ago, to roast some chestnuts she got at the supermarket. I don't know what she did wrong, but she put them in the oven and went into the other room for awhile. The peace of the house was shattered by the sound of exploding chestnuts firing around the oven at an incredible speed.For some reason she opened the door and then had to take cover because they then shot all round the kitchen. She never tried it again.

They can even be cooked in the microwave and then the X just peels back and getting the meat out is even easier.
I've had problems with people throwing them in a fire accidently and then about an hour later as everyone is sitting around roasting wieners and marshmallows the things start going off. We try not to do that anymore.
I was laughing so hard when I read that, and my husband asked what was so funny. When I told him he laughed too. Thank you for that post MissJessie.

I just discovered putting them in the microwave a year ago. I think they are just as good though a little different flavor.
Not meaning to be oxymoronic in my fire comment, but sometimes in campfires stuff gets scooped up to go into the fire, like kindling/dry leaves and I've had chestnuts get tossed in with the ground clutter. Not so good later on in the evening!
I can imagine sitting around a campfire, a little mellow with some cheap wine, making baked potatoes and hotdogs and then BAMM! Incoming.It would scare the beejabbers out of one. Screaming kids, barking dogs, swearing parents. Somehow, the peaceful outdoor experience would suffer. Thanks for the story.
I've roasted cinnamon pecans in the oven and they come out really good. Taste even better when you eat them warm.
