Anything by Murakami. Tried Kafka on the Shore but abandoned it after it meandered on too much for my liking. Won’t be trying anything else by him for the foreseeable future.

Little FaceBefore this, I'd finished every book I'd ever picked up, after I became a regular put-downer, because life's too short!
The Giving Tree - such a lovely teaching to children, that a boy grows up using a tree until he has killed it, with no concern whatever for its welfare... and it's always referred to as "she" - the moral? Something to the effect that (male) humans are entitled to use nature (and by implication, female humans?) and nature/females will be "happy" to have been used and used up. And this is considered inspiring and heartwarming?
