Seraphina It's a really good read and I think shows to the extreme the pressures girls face. They are the products of their environment but none of them seem to stuggle too much with having to behave like that either

Margo I think it was a case of both nature and nurture. Their genetic programming was to compete and their environment made them all rivels. Nice girls didn't survive!

Marcia | 437 comments That's right Margo. It was sad that Frieda and Isabel both had to die, but maybe that was a better ending than than what would have happened to them had they become companions.

Margo I don't know if I felt more sorry for the compananions or the wives. At least the ones that became teachers got a bit of a break. And if I rememer right, they weren't terminated at 40!

Donna McCaul Thibodeau (celtic_donna) | 1150 comments This really was such a dark book but it's stayed with me, even though I've read lots since then. I thought it felt authentic to write the ending the way it was done because in that type of society no one really got a happy ending, did they?

Colleen | 1205 comments Yes the ending made sense , having a happy ending would have been a cop out but that Meghan got the guy bothered me. I really didn't like the book either because it felt too young adult/high school drama or I was looking for a book more like The Handmaid's Tale which I loved.
