Alexandra (shinehart) | 6 comments So this is my attempt at breaking my previous record for most books ever read which is 28 (lame I know) but I did read all the Babysitter Club books when I was 11 so that's got to count too right ?

Seriously thought I love reading and I wish I could read all the time 24/7 but I can't as I've a job, a masters degree and an adult AND a dog to take care of. BUT I have decided to give it my best and read 35 books this year!

I'll probably just keep posting here for my own self worth as I doubt anyone else would be that interested in the ramblings of a constantly tired, wistful, usually wine-loaded shift worker who wishes she was Jane Austin.

I'm a lover of paper but also have an e-book so stealth reading at work so I'll ensure to state where I get my books too! So as a final word of encouragement to myself: Alex, you go kick those book-asses and enjoy the hell out of those stories like you've never enjoyed anything before!

Peace out!
-A.

Alexandra (shinehart) | 6 comments Echoes of AngelsBook #1 - Echos of Angels by Matt Larkin. Free e-book on my handy Kobo.

Now let me start off by saying - I could see why this book was free.
I mean that with no disrespect or ill-hate because I did like it, but it's no prize winner. The blurb basically tells you the angels gave mankind all this stuff, and then disappeared leaving them half finished stuff, but ONE PERSON (of course) believes things are different, and she will show the world...[summarized a lot].

The heroine is a little predictable for me; but in saying that I figured out the Matrix a third of the way through the second movie, so I digress...the antagonist is obvious, the plot line, the social associations blah blah blah.
BUT -what a world! The world is astoundingly put together. I find some books, especially sci-fi is often not 100% thought through, but Larkin managed that well. It made it believable and intriguing - half way into the book, it becomes believable that anything could happen, space travel makes since, the political agendas of the world, why they eat certain things, why things all work the way they do - it's an endless flow of cogs and wheels that just keep turning so I salute the author here! Despite the 2-dimensional characters the highly adapted 4-D, high definition world makes it work out and I found myself grossly interested in how it would work out and the numb-faced characters become intriguing and thoughtfully played out and you find you end up rooting for them at the end.

I'd say 3.5/5 herald angels for this book!

Alexandra (shinehart) | 6 comments Okay - so anyone who may have clicked this may have realized, I'm a horrible blogger.

Seriously.

I should just quit now as I'm theoretically ahead - BUT NO! Not this duck! I've written quick reviews of a few books I've read so I will endeavor to post them ASAP! It's been a rough 2 months in the Shiney Household so a lot of reading has been put on hold! Luckily for me, I have still managed to read 4 books this year so it's still better than none! :)
