Greta | 1459 comments Just finished Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs which works for The Lovers.

message 602: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Finished Angelfall. I don't think it works for anything except my free choice book for this detour. Except maybe a spell it out down the track, I'm on schedule to finish Hammered on Sunday so either way :)

Lol you know you've been spending too much time on Facebook when your first instinct to link a book is to write the @ sign

Greta | 1459 comments How close are we to moving on to week 3? Just curious :-)

message 604: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Sorry have been so busy looking for big books for my other game I've been neglecting this one! Updating everything now :)

Surprisingly "The Lovers" isn't as easy to find as I thought so great job finding it Greta!

Lauri - added The Golden Lion as your "adult" book just in case you can't find something else. And added Chili Con Corpses as this week's book :)

Jess - added Angelfall - I LOVED that one but the rest of the series wasn't as good IMO. You might think otherwise seeing as you didn't like the 1st much as much. Are you continuing the series?

Okay after updating we only need Annika and Denise's books and we can move on!

Do we need anything in particular or just any book?

message 606: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments This week's book was free choice so any book :)

message 607: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I finished On The Right Track earlier today, so we can use that :)

message 608: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Cathy, I enjoyed Angelfall too, I'm just in a reading ratings slump where I feel like I've been rating things too high so basically 3 stars right now is my usual 4 stars and 4 stars is my usual 5 stars haha, I'm so bad at being consistent with it! I've requested the second book from the library, we'll see how it goes. I only requested it because it had similar ratings to the first haha :)

message 609: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I should finish The Kite Runner either tonight or tomorrow for exceeding expectations if it helps us for that detour...

message 610: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Thanks Annika! I checked Denise's page and saw that she just finished An Ember in the Ashes so logged that one for her.

So we are officially off to Stop #3! Welcome to Anchorage, Alaska!

Our task for this week (since we will be doing the detour per our earlier conversations):

Read a book that is in the "Books that Exceeded your Expectations" Listopia List (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...)

message 611: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Ugh, I hate being limited to specific books. I'll go through and see what I can find. Do we have a deadline when it needs to be finished?

message 612: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments No deadline, we just move to the next stop once everyone has completed their book.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments Hi! I finished The Kite Runner last nite 4/25/16. I'd like to use it for exceeding expectations -- it's #3 on the list. Absolutely fabulous book! I don't know why I resisted reading it for so long!
Could someone please add it to the list for me?

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

message 616: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Is this stop the exceeds expectation list stop? I'll have to start my book lol the last few weeks have not been kind to my poor brain haha :'(

message 617: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I just finished Come Rain or Come Shine tonight. Fabulous book!! The latest in the Mitford series -- if you love Fr. Tim & company you gotta read this one!!

Come Rain or Come Shine (Mitford Years, #11) by Jan Karon

message 618: by Cathy M. (new)

Can someone add it to the spreadsheet?

message 620: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Not exam time, I just caught the flu and was out of things for a week and a half so have had so much catching up to do! A few quizzes mixed in for fun too because of course haha. I'll be curling up over this long weekend with my book :)

message 621: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments I've got 2 more books to finish up, then I'll be able to start my book for this stop

Could someone add them to the spreadsheet for me, please?

message 625: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments I am so sorry guys, my "long weekend reading" was really just a long weekend studying haha, I'm starting my exceed expectations book today, I've swapped to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time because I can race through that one quickly lol, I should have it done by tomorrow night. I'm so sorry to be so slow this week though!

I'll update the spreadsheet on the weekend with the other books I've finished in the last week or two that will maybe work for future stops :)

message 626: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Oh I loved that one Jess! Hope you enjoy it :)

I've updated the spreadsheet with the books posted. I finally read a book with "The Lovers" but forgot to note it so I'll need to search the books I finished recently to see if I could find it :/ (if I still have the book)

We're waiting for books for Laila, Jess & Denise to move onto Stop #4!

message 627: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Okay, updated the spreadsheet with The Curious Incident and others :)

Cathy, I see on the spreadsheet that you've just read that book too! I enjoyed it :) I read it once years ago and when I saw it on the list I thought it was time for a reread :)

message 628: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Oh also, regarding "The Lovers" - anyone have any tips for me to find a book for that? Because I can guarantee I could read 20 books that have that phrase in it and I would miss every one of them haha :(

message 629: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments Jess- you can open the book in Amazon, click look inside and search for the lovers.

message 630: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments Read Grimspace by Ann Aguirre 5/5
Tagged 2008

message 631: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Thanks Greta! I'll check that out. I don't use Amazon usually lol

message 632: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I just finished The Kitchen House -- it was amazing! I didn't want to read any other books or go to sleep at decent hours... Also Making Money which I just couldn't get into although it was clever and witty

The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom Making Money (Discworld, #36; Moist Von Lipwig, #2) by Terry Pratchett

Could someone add them on to the spreadsheet for me, please?

message 633: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments What's everyone up to this weekend? Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! My baby is on vacation in California & Arizona, so I'm childless this year.

One weird question for y'all: how do you determine Amazon shipping weight? I never buy books, so I don't know. I'm pretty sure one of my recent books would qualify...

message 634: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments Happy Mothers Day to you too! We will spend time going to a garden center & possibly planting :-)

If you open the book on Amazon, click on the hardcover version, scroll down to Product Details it lists the shipping weight.

message 635: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments Finally finished my book for "Books that Exceed Your Expectations"
I read Captain James Hook and the Curse of Peter Pan, which is #967 on the list

Cool! I'll try it. I'm sure that ar least one of my books will qualify...

message 638: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments Yaaayyy! I'd like to use Come Rain or Come Shine for my Amazon 1-2lb. Shipping weight. It's listed as 1.2 lbs.
Thanks, Greta!

message 639: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments Glad it worked, Lauri :-)

I've added them, Lauri :D

message 642: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Happy late Mother's Day to all the mothers here :)

So how is everyone doing? I haven't heard back from Denise yet so not sure if she is still playing. We can wait a few more days, can move on to the next stop without her, can continue on with 7 players, or can try to pick up another hitchhiker.

What would everyone like to do? At this point, we are only waiting for her book to leave Stop #3 (Anchorage)...but I can check her books read to see if anything fits.

message 643: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I'm fine doing what everyone else wants...if we want to wait a little, that's fine.

I will be finishing up my #4 in series book in the next couple of days. I still need to find a 2008 book to read.

message 644: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments I checked Denise's books & she read Garden Spells which was around 2125 on the Books That Exceeded Your Expectations list...

so we can officially move on to Stop #4!! We are now on our way to Burlington :D

message 645: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Stop #4: Burlington

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments Cool! I was off today and finished Bury Me Standing: The Gypsies and Their Journey, which does not count for this challenge... and
When Breath Becomes Air which was transcendent! I cried so much, people will probably think I lost a fight tomorrow. But I don't care. It was that good!

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

message 647: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Sweet! I've got about 150 pages left of my 4th in a series book :)

Lauri, I hate that when a book makes you cry and your eyes are all puffy the next day like you've had an allergic reaction or something lol!

message 648: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Okay finished my 4th in a series, Blood Promise

I'll add it to the spreadsheet when I'm on the computer :)
