Greta | 1459 comments Ah ok :-) the next stop is a spell out as well, right?

message 552: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I just read Kristy's Great Idea (The Baby-Sitters Club, #1) by Ann M. Martin - 176 pages.

Are there rules about middle grade or YA books? This one has both tags. Can I use it?

message 553: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments There is no minimum page count so you are good! I thought it was 100 pgs, or 25k words, but looking at the READ ME FIRST thread, because this is a self-directed challenge, it's up to us!

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Just waiting for Lauri & Jess for their books to finish this location. I've tentatively logged mine as T but may change that depending on what Jess is reading (T or A). Once we have at least 1 more, we'll have 6 people logged in and can technically move to the next location. Anyone know if they can fill in their books at any time for the full points? If not, I'll look at the Q&As or ask a mod.

For location 2, the options are:

Tasks:
A. Read a book set in Russia or an author from Russia OR
B. Spell-out RUSSIA or PETROPAVLOVSK

OR Detour:
Read a book with an atom or DNA helix on the cover

I vote spell-out RUSSIA - we'll need 6 books to cover the letters and then the 2 other members can read whatever they want.

message 555: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments I actually just finished an S book that we can use for RUSSIA! Soulless by Gail Carriger. I'll add it to the spreadsheet.

message 556: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments Just took a look at the spreadsheet, did anyone read for the letter U? I saw that Annika said she would in Msg 542, but it's an A book posted. The letters we still need according to the spreadsheet are A, T, and U.

message 557: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Yep Annika did - I put it at the end of the row for now. Should probably add it to the main section (on the next line) though so it shows.

Delitealex | 3990 comments Cathy M. wrote: "Just waiting for Lauri & Jess for their books to finish this location. I've tentatively logged mine as T but may change that depending on what Jess is reading (T or A). Once we have at least 1 more..."

Read Silent Bob 4/5 by Erik Schubach could be used for R one of the MCs name is Roberta or could be used for S in Russia.

Could someone add it to the spreadsheet? :) thanks

message 559: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments It's been added Delitealex!

message 560: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments Almost done with my A book, Aunt Dimity and the Duke. Should finish by tomorrow.

Aunt Dimity and the Duke (An Aunt Dimity Mystery, #2) by Nancy Atherton

Just finished The Yellow House by Patricia Falvey today. Really excellent book! Also Cross Stitch Before Dying (An Embroidery Mystery, #6) by Amanda Lee .

How is everyone doing this weekend? I was off today and made a huge vat of beef stew. It's that kind of weather here -- still.

message 561: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Is it storming there? It's supposed to rain here this weekend which means I'll probably be lazy and stay home :) I'm such a wuss when it comes to weather. Probably from years of living in Korea dealing with cold winters/snow storms and the rainy summer monsoon seasons. LA has spoiled me :D

message 562: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments It's just overcast and rainy. There's a high wind warning and it's away too foolish for April. I needed to wear a sweater to work yesterday!

message 563: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I can catch either A or I for Russia or I can look for a U book since that's probably the hardest...

message 564: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I just finished another U book (I seem to pile them up this past week) :)

Until Forever Comes :)

message 565: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I just finished a book that works for A, I, S.

message 566: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I just added my book that works for A, I and S to the Spreadsheet.

Invisibility by Andrea Cremer

message 567: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments I'm so sorry I haven't posted in ages, is it really the 10th of April already!? Where did this month even go? Lol! I'm good for any of the letters I said in my last post, if someone tells me which I should do I'll speed to the end of that book as I've done that thing again where I'm reading ten billion books at once and am most of the way through them all, lol.

message 568: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I just finished Aunt Dimity and the Duke late last night!

Aunt Dimity and the Duke (An Aunt Dimity Mystery, #2) by Nancy Atherton

Could someone add it to the spreadsheet for me, please?

message 569: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments What shall I read for Russia?

I'm soooo confused! ;(

message 570: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I'm finishing Armada tonight sometime if we still need an A book. Not sure what other letters it might work for (character-wise).

Should I just be putting all of the books I read onto the spreadsheet even if we aren't using them for that week's spell-out or whatever? I've finished about 8 besides that one I posted for K, lol. :)

message 571: by Cathy M. (last edited Apr 11, 2016 11:18PM) (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments So does everyone want to go for maximum points? If so we need Jess' book to move on since everyone has to finish at least 1 book at the stop.

Jess - You can read either T or A since my book worked for either. I left it up to you so just let us know!

For the spell-it-out for RUSSIA, we have all letters covered at this point so once we "officially" start the stop, everyone will just need to log at least 1 book (any book).

R - Delitealex - Silent Bob (MC Roberta)
U - Annika - Until Forever Comes
S - Laila Jane - Soulless
S - Cathy - One with You (Author Sylvia Day)
I - Greta - Invisibility
A - Denise - Armada

If any of you would like to save these reads for one of the future detours, just shout out and I'll move your book! (I'll update the spreadsheet tomorrow night)

Lauri - you can read whatever you like :)

Denise - please go ahead and log your books! Any books read since the beginning can be used at any time.

Just FYI - my 2 cents on what to log - just log the books that work for later detours/stops, and also make sure you log at least 1 book for the stop that you are currently in (for that stop's "participation"). From the sounds of it, stop 2 will be Russia spell-it-out, but we'll do the detours for the remaining 6 stops.

As an example - we're currently at Stop #1. I already read my book for this stop's task (spell-it-out) but I also read a book that will work for Stop #3. I logged that 2nd book to use for Stop #3. Once we reach Stop #3, because I already met that task, I can read/log any book I finish during that week for "participation." (I'm going off of what Karen did last round re the participation)

This is confusing I know but because this is self-directed, we can really play this any way we want! We can choose to only log the books for the current tasks, or we can leave it open like this so that it's not as limited re time frame.

message 572: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I just finished Better Read Than Dead
Better Read Than Dead (Psychic Eye Mystery, #2) by Victoria Laurie

Could someone add it to the spreadsheet, please?

message 573: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Added for you Lauri!

message 574: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments Max points sounds good to me if we can manage, Cathy!

message 575: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments Max points sound good to me too

message 576: by Jess (last edited Apr 12, 2016 10:39PM) (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Done with Shadow Kiss which works for A due to a character named Adrian :) So we should be ready to move on then! Any book for each of us for Russia if I'm understanding that correctly? Too easy :)

Edit: I can't add it to the spreadsheet on my iPad but can do so next time I'm at the computer, a bit unwell at the moment or I'd drag myself out of bed now lol!

message 577: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Yay, great job Jess! I'll add your book!

And we can officially move to Stop #2 - Petropavlovsk, Russia. I think we're all in agreement for the spell-it-out, which we already have covered so everyone just read want you want this week! And make sure you post when you finish so we can log them :)

message 578: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments Perfect! This should be an easy week =)

message 579: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments It is an easy week! Don't you just love them?!

But you can always start looking for books for the next stops :) The upcoming detours are:

Stop #3: Read a book that is in the "Books that Exceeded your Expectations" Listopia List (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...)

Stop #4: Read a book that is book 4 in a series

Stop #5: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as 2008 - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable

Stop #6: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as adult - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable

Stop #7: Read a book where the amazon ship weight for the hardcover is between 1-2 pounds

Stop #8: Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Lovers" in the text or title

message 580: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Stop 4 will be easy for me since I'm just finishing up books number 3 in a few different series right now, lol!

message 581: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments That's great! I'm in the middle of a book 4 so I'm definitely saving it for that stop since I don't think I'm there for any other series right now!

An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgertons, #3) by Julia Quinn An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

Delitealex - I added your book to the spreadsheet as well

message 584: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I finished a book that is from the exceeded expectations list.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling

#111 on the list

I added it to the spreadsheet.

So for the Russia week I'm done, right? And then for the next week in Anchorage, I have the task covered and will have to have a participation book since I've finished the task already.

I hope I'm understanding that!

message 585: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments Or do I need my I book for the RUSSIA spellout AND a participation book?

In that case, I can enter Kristy's Great Idea (The Baby-Sitters Club, #1) by Ann M. Martin

message 586: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments Greta - I want to say that you're done for the Russia week and just need a participation book for the next week. But let's wait to see what Cathy says. She seems to remember the rules a lot better than I do

message 587: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments Thanks! I'm sure after this turn I will have it figured out :-)

What is everyone reading for exceeding expectations? How about adult? I'm a little confused by the adult call...

I will add it. Actually, I checked and this book fits for "Adult." To see that I opened the book link and on the right just under where it says Genres, you click on the "see top shelves" link. If the "adult" tag is on that first page of top shelves, then you can use it. In your case, "adult" was tagged once and it is on that first page.

Do you want to count it for adult or use another book?

It also works for Amazon ship weight with 1 pound for it's weight so you have some options with that.

Sorry didn't have much time on the net the last couple days but I'm up and running again so will be catching up/updating :)

Greta - if you want to save the HP book for the task for next week (Expectations) we will still need your participation for this week (Russa week). It should be a book finished this week (after we moved to this spot which was the 12th). Or if you have something else you can read from the list for next week, we can use your HP book for this week's participation.

message 595: by Cathy M. (last edited Apr 16, 2016 11:23AM) (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments Think of it like this - you need 1 book per week. If you want to use the book you read for another week's task, you still need a book to log for your book of the week.

And if you pre-read a book (before that week for a particular task) you can read any book you like during that book since the task was already completed.

message 596: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5979 comments I finished The Visitor (Graveyard Queen, #4) by Amanda Stevens which was a #4 in series.

For this week's participation I finished The Spider Bites (Rapid Reads) by Medora Sale .

Lauri - did you want to save your book for one of the other tasks, or are you using it this week for your participation?

message 597: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I have updated the spreadsheet with my "adult" book. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Live by Douglas Adams

message 598: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments How About... Cathy gets to put whatever she likes for any category... Just put Lion wherever you like!! :)

I just finished Chili Con Corpses last night. Pretty funny...

Greta | 1459 comments I found "the lovers" in my current book :-)

That was a fun find!

message 600: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments I should be done with Angelfall in the next 24hrs so I'll update here when that's done!

I'm thinking I'll read The Lovely Bones for the book on the exceeded expectations list.

My book 4 book I can do #4 in Vampire Academy, Song of the Lionness, Artemis Fowl, or Iron Druid chronicles - I'll see which one my library can get in soonest haha ;)

I'm thinking The Golden Compass for shelved as 2008

Currently reading Forged in Fire which works for shelved as adult

I'll have to google some Amazon ship weights haha, and idk off the top of my head if I have anything for the lovers because I'm so bad at picking out words as I read! Lol
