Those adventures sound amazing Daphne! How long have you been doing this? Did your mom travel with you when you were really young? I've been to a few other states mostly on the east coast here, but other than that I've only been to Puerto Rico and Germany because that's where I have family. I've never really traveled anywhere without going because of family.I did some research on San Andres Island and now I want to go. I'd just have to plan it out a year in advanced to afford it.
I know we talked about extending the week, but we never discussed how long. Who is still reading books that apply this week?
If we go with the detour then we need books from Bookworm, NancyMarie and Michelle. If we go with the spell it out we only need books from Bookworm and NancyMarie. We can extend it how ever long we need to, it can be days not just a whole week.
Well until we hear from the others about this week I know we can't do much. But until we hear from the does anyone have any books planned for the next week? I just finished Cinder and have All the Light We Cannot See for my next one before it's due at the library. I know it's a longer book, but after it I plan to read Cocaine Blues which takes place in Australia.
I had hoped to finish my plane book this week, but I didn't have as much reading time as I had hoped. I have a few things this weekend, but I should be able to finish it as it seems to be a quick read when I get time to dedicate to it.
I have some other books I need to finish reading first but then I will read a book set in Australia.

I've finished an Australia book too. Down Under by Bill Bryson and it was super, super funny. :)We haven't heard from Nancy since the 28th. I hope she hasn't forgotten about the challenge!
I'm good with however you all want to move forward. We don't have to have everyone complete a book each stop, but we will have to accept not getting max points. It's up to however we want to do it. At this point, I'm sure we could spell out Columbia with our current books, and we have enough of the plane book finished to move forward.
I'll just keep adding my books, and I'm good with however they are used. :)
Hey guys! Just checking in. Are we still on week 1? ❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Sherlock Holmesღ♥ღ wrote: "I have some other books I need to finish reading first but then I will read a book set in Australia."
So what type of traveling did you guys do when you were really little? Like toddler little.
Hello again. Checking in with the team. I am still reading. I have a few more books to post on the spreadsheet which I will do in a couple of hours. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
I'm a bit confused about the spreadsheet. Do we each put our info in or will someone else be doing that? If we do it ourselves, which sheet?
Zeni wrote: "Hey guys! Just checking in. Are we still on week 1? ❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Sherlock Holmesღ♥ღ wrote: "I have some other books I need to finish reading first but then I will read a book set in Australi..."
Yep we are still on week 1, don't know when we are moving on though.
I live in Sydney Australia and I have never left the country or been on a plane before, the only places I have been are Queensland and Melbourne and they were both by car which took forever.
Michelle, I have put the last 2 books you posted in the spreadsheet and I'm happy to do that for you, but if you want you can add them to the spreadsheet yourself. If you do you have your own sheet with your name on it, all you have to do is add the info.
So, what is going on? As the first 8 to sign on to this challenge, I would think we are the most motivated. What is keeping us from moving on? Books with a plane scene may be difficult, that is understandable, but we can still do Spell-it-Out, we are not locked in to any choice at this point. Can we do a check in with our MIA members and see where they are at? I don't mind spending a little extra time at each stop, but if we drag it out too long, it's no longer a challenge.
Well we can move on at this point if we want to, we would get the same amount of points from either option which would be 25 points total.
❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Sherlock Holmesღ♥ღ wrote: "I send a message to NancyMaire to ask if she is still playing, hopefully she is."Thank you for doing this.
❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Sherlock Holmesღ♥ღ wrote: "Well we can move on at this point if we want to, we would get the same amount of points from either option which would be 25 points total."We could, but that doesn't get us maximum points nor does it answer the questions about where our members are...
I didn't have any books that fit the plane one.
Okay we only need 1 more for the spell-it-out option, and to get the most points for that option we need a book from bookworm then we can move to the next stop.
I saw some other groups do a vote on their spreadsheet which five detours each person would most want to do. The five stops with the most votes win, and it's then the responsibility of each team member to find and read a book that would fit. What do you all think of that?
I think it wouldn't hurt. I tend to try not to plan too far in advanced. So I'd say yeah we should do that, but also continue tracking both the detour and spell it out each week. That way we can see which weeks to try to do the detour, but we aren't committed and can still switch.
When it comes to stops 4 & 5 they don't have enough letters for all member to contribute so would not be able to get the max points for tasks so would be better for us to go detour on those but for the rest it doesn't bother me.I agree Zeni, might as well keep track of both the decide at the end of the week.
❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Sherlock Holmesღ♥ღ wrote: "When it comes to stops 4 & 5 they don't have enough letters for all member to contribute so would not be able to get the max points for tasks so would be better for us to go detour on those but for..."For those ones we can just do the city or country.
Like for the next stop, we can spell out Chile or Punta Arenas. I think we should just go ahead and spell out Punta Arenas since we have lots of extra books laying around already read by those of us that read a bit more. :)
I am happy to read whichever way we choose. I would like to see us maximize our points. Whichever way works for the team is good for me.
I've read books but I thought they needed to be about planes
NancyMaire wrote: "I've read books but I thought they needed to be about planes"It all depends on how we want to treat this challenge.
1. We can treat it as a serious challenge and all work towards goals. We each make the effort to adjust what we are reading as required and seek out and read books for the detours and tasks.
or
2. We can treat it as the easy ones like spell-it-out challenges where it doesn't matter what we read and no one has to adjust their reading genres or whatever to cover tasks.
I always prefer the 1st option when it comes to challenges because they are actual challenges that require finding books that fit and breaking out of my comfort zones. I already do one of the most hardcore challenges that I've found on GR with The Seasonal Reading Challenge each season, so I'm happy if we just want to make this a leisurely global jaunt.
I might make my own personal goal to find and read books for each detour, and we can fit those in wherever if we just go with spell-it-out. :)
NancyMaire wrote: "I've read books but I thought they needed to be about planes"Can you post every book you have finished since the challenge first started, it has to be book started when the challenge began not before. we can used any book you read in other stops even if they were read before that stop.

I would go with option 2 myself, I can't always get a hold of a book but even if I could if it doesn't interest me I won't read it. I love reading and I read what I feel like in the moment so I don't want it to become something were I have to force myself to continue with a book I'm not feeling.
I'm normally very good with challenges always finding whatever we need to complete a challenge in them but I don't think I have read a book set in the places we are stopping at, I wouldn't know where do find them.
So, do I need to just add my books once I finish them?
You can add them on here and I can add them to the spreadsheet for you or you can add them to the spreadsheet yourself, your choice. If you post them on here, make sure you add date finished, character names, the location the book is set in, and if it fits a detour or task.
Added a few more finished books. The only detour books I'm yet to finish are Paranormal, Zombies, Angsty Fight/Good-bye. I was pleasantly surprised I finished the Death one without meaning to. The book had Death on the main page, and I didn't notice until I went to rate it. :)How goes everyone else's reading?
❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Sherlock Holmesღ♥ღ wrote: "Where all 3 books started after the 27th January because they only count if they were?"
Yes, they were added after the 27th

Sorry, I have not gotten off to a strong start last week. It was a bad reading week for me. I should be able to finish my plane book tonight.
I'll hopefully finish the book I'm on by tomorrow and then I'll be able to move to the detour for the second stop
Finished another book
Date finished: 2/9/16
Characters Names: Teddy Hall, Kim Schein, Adam Wilde, and Mia Hall

I see a spreadsheet, but nothing with my name on it. There is Sheet 1, Sheet 2, and Sheet 3. Plus I can only view it. I'm not allowed to input anything.
Do I have the wrong spreadsheet?

Yeah that's my personal spreadsheet, the main spreadsheet is posted in post 2 I think.
Added another book to the Spreadsheet

My brain is all muddled. I've had some serious insomnia for the past 3 days. I eventually found it.

I haven't done much traveling. If time, money and safety weren't a concern I would love to visit lots of place..."
Don't worry about safety! Life is too short to be paranoid about things like that. The only place I've ever been to that I felt truly uncomfortable was India. I hated it there - almost everything about. The vast majority of people and places felt unsafe and I was afraid to leave any of our hotels by myself. There was a few enjoyable things there, but most...not so much. Nepal in contrast was incredible. The people were some of the kindest and most fun I've met. The views were beyond words too. We got back not too long before the earthquake hit. I was so scared for all the people I met while there. We were able to find out that everyone we knew made it out okay though, but so many did not.
Romania was very sweet too. We went there for Halloween several years ago. The highlight was a costume party on Halloween night at one of Vlad's castles. We got to party in the original vampires throne room, and had run of the whole castle. It was surreal spending the whole night, drunk, cavorting through a castle dressed up as Daphne the tree nymph and my brother as Jesus. Beyond words!
China was great! People there were very welcoming and the sites and history was on par with Italy for me. I felt more comfortable in Rome though because I've spent so much of my life studying it.
I'm used to people thinking negative things about us because of all of our global travels. We really aren't rich. We just don't buy much stuff or blow money on the normal American things. My mom has a magical view on life that she wants to leave my brother and I with memories and not things. I can't think of better way to possibly live.
I'm also very good at finding extra ways to save money and add experience/time to our trips. For example, we rented an entire apartment with a private terrace for a week in Rome. The terrace even overlooked the Coliseum and there was a view of Vatican in the distance. It ended up being even cheaper than two rooms in a decent hotel for a week in Rome.
You are absolutely welcome to join us on any of global sojourns Bookworm or anyone! We've traveled and made friends with people from all over the globe, and have met up several times with those we've been lucky enough to share experiences with.
I'm saving up right now for my dream African safari or the 2 week private tour that is led by Zahi Hawass in Egypt. I know Hawass is kind of a dick, but he has also done so much for Egyptian archaeology before the uprising, and he is utterly adorable.
