The writer tours the reader into the storyworld making the reader ask many questions. The first paragraph confuses the reader and then goes into the real story and builds the plot. He talks about the the climate, the past, the appearance and the physical features
In the book A Crack in the Line by Micheal Lawrence, the book goes back and forth from third person omniscient and third person limited (shifting). It shifts point of views between characters.
In the book a Crack in the Line by Micheal Lawrence, in many of the scenes there is a mood of confusion. This is because the characters don't fully understand what is happening. He establishes the mood by using the characters dialogue and action. He chooses a particular mood for a scene to enhance the reader and bring them into the storyworld. In the scene when Al and Naia talk about the mom, Micheal Lawrence creates a mood of awkwardness and tension.
In A Crack in the Line by Micheal Lawrence, there are multiple tones over the course of the story. The writer establishes the tone through the speaker's dialogue, and the topic on which they are discussing. It is crucial to understand the tone because it helps the reader to understand the characters and their feelings. This helps the reader to become further immersed in the storyworld.
Crack in the line by Micheal Lawrence is written in fantasy. Parts of the story that determine the genre are character plot/conflict and setting. The plot of two characters living identical lives shows an element of fantasy. The fact that you can teleport using the Folly shows how unrealistic the story is. Fantasy occurs in character because the characters live identical lives in a parallel universe. Fantasy shows up in many different places in the story.
A Crack in The Line has some ambiguous parts in the story to change the plot. It helps the book change because it makes the reader ask questions and get dragged into the story-world.
The storyworld in A crack in the Line takes places a few decades in the past. There is no social classes. The storyworld is a very much like the present. There is a cold winter with snow. In the storyworld, it seems like it is always snowing, and they wear gloves and coats like we do in modern day. There is also trains and cars. The basic needs are much like today's. They need food,shelter, and clothing. Unlike present day, they have milk delivered to their door by a milkman. In the storyworld, they have gardens and rivers, much like we do today.
In A Crack in the Line, most of the storyworld is based on the decisions and choices the characters make, as well as the consequences to the decisions. Each decision impacts part of the world, and a lot of the decisions are impacted by the storyworld. For example, Naia had to choose to visit Alaric's world through the Folly. It was impacted by the storyworld because Alaric lives in an entirely different universe, and she may not even be able to return.
In Crack In The Line the setting influences the actions of the characters by restricting the choices and decisions they have. For example, Alaric couldn't have met Naia if there wasn't an alternate dimension. If the mom didn't die, Alaric would have never touched the folley that sent him to the other world.
A minor event can have a major impact.
The ending is that Naia and Alaric get stuck in eachothers world. The ending was effective because it was powerful and made the reader feel how Naia feels, but it wasn't very satisfying. None of the conflicts in the story were resolved and it wasn't written very well.
