Patrick S. Will Hill starts the tour of the story-world through an action-packed flash back in which he describes the geography, technology, and society. He weaves all this in while he narrates a sort of back-bone for the rest of the story. Everything that happens after that is based on the back-bone. It is sort of the foundation.

Patrick S. This story is written in third-person limited. Will Hill probably chose to wrote this in third-person so you could see Jamie's thoughts, feelings, and actions. This is so you could get more drawn into the book.

Patrick S. Will Hill establishes a mood for when Jamie's dad dies by his descriptive language and word choice. Will Hill established the mood by making certain characters do certain actions. He also amplifies the mood through the setting. A writer chooses a particular mood for a specific scene because mood can draw a reader into the story more.

Patrick S. The tone of Commander Steward when he was yelling at Jamie and his companions was furious or annoyed. Will Hill establishes this tone by using specific verbs and punctuation such as "he yelled" or exclamation marks. It is important to understand tone because it can draw you into the book more. Without tone the book would very boring like a robot reading it.

Patrick S. This book is in the genre of fantasy because it has fantastical characters and conflict. An example of a fictitious character in this is the vampire Dracula and his best generals Alexandru, Valeri, and Valetin. The conflict is between department 19 and the vampires. That is why the conflict is fiction. This book fits the fantasy genre because it has fantastical character and a fantastical conflict.

Patrick S. A part that is ambiguous in Department Nineteen is the part where Jamie and his squad go to the hospital and find the words "HE RISES" in blood. This makes the reader think about why that is there and who put it there. That makes it ambiguous. The reader wants to read more to find the answers to the questions that were presented.

Patrick S. This story takes place on Earth. Most of it takes place in modern-day London. Most of the action is related to the department 19. They are technological. They have high-tech battle suits and heat detecting helmets. The religion in this world is normal. They have many different types such as Christianity, Judaism, and Buddhism. A luxury is being rich. The climate varies depending on the time of the year. The geography is like the geography in real life London.

Patrick S. In Department 19 Kate has the decisions of either fighting vampires at the stake of her life or live a normal life haunted by what she had seen. Her decision is affected by the story-world because of the creatures that live in it (vampires). She chose to join department 19 because she wanted answers to her questions. Her decision might have affected the lives of her squad (Larissa and Jamie). Without her Jamie and Larissa could have gotten hurt or worse, die.

Patrick S. In Department 19 when they are being attacked by a vampire army, the department activates a bunch of UV light mines/explosions. The circumstance allows this because they wouldn't be shooting the light if there were no vampires that existed and if the vampires wouldn't attacking. They also wouldn't need to activate the UV light if it was day but since it was night they did. That is how time affects the action.

Patrick S. The theme of our book is that you might not really know as much as you think you know about a trusted friend or family member.

Patrick S. The ending ends with Dracula have being revived, Jamie with his mom back but at a cost, and Frankenstein dead. The fact the Dracula is revived leaves a lot of room for interpretation. The fact the Frankenstein is dead is pretty sad. It changes Jamie a lot. Dracula being revived is the most important part of the ending.
