-Robb said farewell to Jeyne three times before they left. He didn’t take her to Edmure’s weeding, and she wanted to go. Robb talked gently, but Catelyn noted there was anger underneath. After all, he was a king and she kept insisting in going. I forgot Catelyn was the one who suggested she stayed in Riverrun, it would be a great offense to Frey if she was there. It was a great idea though.
-So it turns out Robb did send Rolph away. He escorted Martyn Lannister, they exchanged him for Robett Glover. Robb’s squire stayed too because his old one would be in the weeding. They are really taking care to not offend the old man. Catelyn thought Jeyne and her family were safer in Riverrun with Brynden, who Robb named Warden of the Southern Marches. I forgot that! They were 3500 men. All whom fought with Robb, the lords of the riverlands stayed behind to defend their lands, so these were northmen.
-I really like Dacey and her mother Lady Maege. Catelyn thinks the Mormonts feel comfortable being women and warriors, unlike Brienne. It’s common for them though. They fought with Robb in every battle, and they told Catelyn he didn’t lose any, but she thinks he lost everything else. She thinks she has to be strong for him. She has so much weight in her shoulders though.
-While Catelyn wonders if they will win if they get the Freys back, Edmure wonders if Roslin is beautiful or not. Catelyn snaps a little, and tells him Cersei is comely, so he should want a strong woman with a loyal heart. Edmure is offended of course, and Catelyn thinks maybe she was harsh. He is younger than her, and even she was disappointed when she first saw Ned, although she loved him after. I understand why she did it though.
-They went through the Whispering Wood, and Catelyn thinks what would have happened if Theon fought Jaime that night. He would be probably dead, and most likely the whole thing at Winterfell wouldn’t have happened. She thinks of all the people she lost as well. They saw bones, and stone cairns as well and wonders where Ned rests now. I wonder too, if it is mention if he ever made it to Winterfell or if the sisters couldn’t pass Moat Cailin I don’t recall. Interesting she wonders if she would ever see Riverrun again, she had a feeling she wouldn’t.
-Turns out the water washed away two bridges, so they couldn’t cross the Blue Fork. Robb thinks Bolton passed already, and would get to the Twins before them. *SPOILERS FOR UPCOMING CHAPTER IN A STORM OF SWORDS* (view spoiler)[I think after rereading the book, Bolton was already in the plan. Maybe they just talked the last details with Frey when he got there, but I don’t believe Frey talked him into killing Robb’s part just when he got there. (hide spoiler)]. Lol, Robb says he’ll beg again to be forgiven for arriving late.
-They are in Oldstones, and they see the tomb of a king. Robb remembers a song about a Jenny of Oldstones; I wonder if this Jenny is the same the old dwarf woman likes to hear about. Catelyn told him they were all songs in the end, if they were lucky. Turns out this king was Tristifer, King of the Rivers and the Hills. Catelyn knew the story, it was said he fought 100 battles, and lost only his last one, when the seven Andal kings unite against him. The line died with his son. Robb thinks he doesn’t have an heir, and Catelyn tries to console him telling him sometimes it takes time. He says he doesn’t want to leave Winterfell to Sansa, which means leaving it to Tyrion, and Catelyn agrees. She proposed some lords of the riverlands, but Robb reminds her of Jon. She didn’t want to bring him up though, and Robb says he is more a Stark than those she proposed, which is true. Catelyn says he is part of the Watch and swore not to take land, but Robb thinks if he sends 100 men in exchange for Jon they’ll find a way. Of course, Catelyn does not want to hear anything about it, and says he might be like Theon and slain his kids, if Jeyne ever got pregnant. It was cruel, and Robb knows Jon is not like Theon, and I think she does as well, although she won’t admit it. I mean, all her kids loved Jon, maybe Sansa not so much. She asks about Arya, and Robb told her she is probably dead and she should face the facts. He wants to legitimize Jon, so he would be the heir to Winterfell if he dies. Robb says he was expecting her support, but she denies it. He’s the king, so he does what he wants. This was a really intense escene, and I forgot most of it.
-Maege asked her the other day if something was amiss, and Catelyn thinks everything in her life is amiss, but says the rain, and she replies she would rather had water falling on her than arrows. Maege told her on Bear Island it was really common for women to be warriors, they were used to the ironmen’s raids, and when their men were away they defended their kids. Darcey says they have a carving on a gate of a warrior, breastfeeding a baby and with an axe on the other hand. Maege brings up Jorah and his wife Lynesse who didn’t like that carving at all. I forgot Jorah was with her in Winterfell, and Catelyn could tell how sad she was. She even gave her advice.
-Jason Mallister catch up with them, and Catelyn saw a man she didn’t know, who turn up to be the captain of a ship that came from the Iron Islands. He tells them Balon Greyjoy is dead, he was walking through a bridge and wind swept him away. Also his brother Euron, the Crow’s Eye, was back, and he sat in the Seastone Chair. Robb thinks Victarion, Asha and Theon if he lives, will go and claim the chair. So he asked Mallister to send two ships to Greywater Watch. He planned to send Maege and Galbart Glover, with false instructions in case they got caught. He had a good plan though, he wanted to take Moat Cailin back. Robb was sure Victarion would leave, although not with all his men, so he planned to attack. If he got the Freys back and counting the Boltons he would have 12000 men. He wanted the crannogmen because they knew ways no one knew, and was sure Howland would help. I forgot about this, and it was quite a plan.
-Finally, Mallister offered to keep Catelyn safe at Seaguard, and she thinks she’ll be a prisoner, although Mallister said she’d be an honored guest. She wants to go to Riverrun, but Jeyne is already there, and he wanted to keep them apart, which is not a bad idea if they go after them. Robb made the lords fix the seals in the paper that said Jon was heir of Winterfell now. I wonder what happened to that paper, who has it or if it was lost or something. Because if it’s still around, it changes so much.
