Ashley Mae (thenshereads) Hello fellow members!

Last night I was able to watch The 5th Wave movie and decided we should start a discussion for those who see the movie.

As for me, I loved the movie. There were parts that felt weird, things or characters I didn't like, but overall I think they did a great job.

So as you see the movie, I would love to hear your opinions on it as well!

Something to talk about:
1- Did you enjoy they actors they chose to play our characters?
2- Were there any changes you didn't like during the movie?
3- Did you enjoy the movie and think that it translated well?

Leelynn (Sometimes Leelynn Reads) ❤ (miyukinightshade) I also saw the movie last night and I really enjoyed it. I went with my friend who read the book with me so we got to download everything right after.

I enjoyed the actors actually. I didn't really see anything wrong them, except of course the fact that Evan didn't have "chocolate eyes" like Cassie kept talking about in the book, but I didn't really mind. I also really liked the girl who played Ringer. I read on IMDB that Ringer was supposed to be Asian. I didn't get that (or maybe I missed that) while I was reading. It would have been awesome if she was played by an Asian actress, but it didn't take away from what Ringer was like in the movie. I also thought the actor who played Evan was extremely hot but that's a side note ;)

I definitely did not like the fact that they didn't talk about Wonderland at all! That was the one thing that I was waiting for throughout the movie and the only time they mentioned it was at the end when they were moving the recruits to "Wonderland", another location. It would have been great to see the flashback of both Ben's and Sammy's life the way that they showed in the book. Me and my friend were really sad about that. I also thought it was weird how they added some sort of action scene that made the Others seem similar to the vampires of Twilight. Both my friend and I were reminded of Twilight when we saw that scene. I also wish that they delved more into the boot camp scenes. To me, it didn't capture just how intense their training regime was, and how much it shaped them into soldiers. I wish they kept that.

Even with the changes, I really did enjoy the movie. I liked how they showed the other waves and how they affected the rest of the world. It was so intense to see just how destructive the waves were, especially the 2nd wave. Just seeing the lake take over Ohio like that was nothing compared to how the ocean destroyed entire coastlines, islands. I live on an island and I immediately was afraid for this alien invasion to happen. I really hope that they make the rest of the movies because I feel like this one did an excellent job.

Sorry that was a really long post!

I just posted a review on the movie on my blog and compared the whole flying through the trees thing to Edward Cullen! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that!

I didn't actually like Ringer that much, but then again it was hard to like any of the characters other than Cassie, Evan, and Zombie because they barely gave you anything from that. I was sad about that.

I agree. I was waiting to hear more about Poundcake and Teacup and all of them. I was debating on if I should write a book vs. movie review on my blog as well! I might but I've never done one before.

Aly (alytheafrican) I thought the movie was great, it got the point across in some ways in another, but overall I wasn't happy?
I think because it missed some of my favourite parts out of the book that I got annoyed because I wanted to see them so badly
Like wonderland, and when Cassie finds out Evan isn't 'human' and she learns to except it, to me that was one of the best parts of the book.
Regarding some characters I was pretty happy and I'm not really that hurt about ethic origin or eye colour - like they did a good job of getting the character across and that's what matters right?
But the film was lovely and my friend that I went with hadn't read the book and loved it so hopefully they'll read it after my pestering ^_^

Leelynn (Sometimes Leelynn Reads) ❤ (miyukinightshade) Hey guys :) Since my post on here was pretty short to me and I sat down and thought about what more to say, I posted on my blog my full movie discussion regarding The 5th Wave right HERE for your convenience. Let me know what you think, and hopefully it isn't too long winded. Apparently I had a lot to say about the movie!

Lindsey (novelnightingales) I saw the movie last weekend, and I actually read the book a year and a half ago. Overall, it was better than I thought it would be. I never expect much for book-to-movie adaptions. I know the book was long enough that they couldn't include everything, but I feel like they did a good job of touching on everything important.

As for the actors, Zombie and Ringer were both a little different than I expected, but they did a good job. Evan was my favorite character in the book, and surprisingly, I liked the actor they got for him because I was unsure after the trailer. I love the actress for Cassie, and I was really excited that she was chosen for the role, but I don't think this was her best movie.

Disappointments...so that woods scene with the jumping through the trees people keep mentioning also bothered me. When reading the book, albeit it was awhile ago, I don't remember having the impression that Evan was THAT superpowered. I mean, weren't the people who came after him also Others? I do remember him being quite capable when it came to fighting, etc. enough so that he seemed like a special Other but not jumping through the trees special.

I really do wish they spent more time having Cassie adjust to Evan being an Other. Those scenes of Cassie healing and their time in the cabin were my favorite of the entire book. I probably won't buy the movie, but I'll rent it when it's available and watch the Cassie-Evan scenes a bunch of times >. <
