20 points for the book, 1 point for participating in each of the discussions as they are posted for a total of 5 discussion points, and 25 points overall. So I can recognize 21 points now.

John Seymour Judith, I'm having trouble following your total. I think you have 18 (Message 7) + 21 (message 8) + 2 (Message 10) for a total of 41. Does that seem right?

message 12: by Judith (new)

Judith (jloucks) | 95 comments I was having trouble also! I realized there was a discrepancy when last you posted our standings. I think you have it right now though.
Sorry I messed up AGAIN!

John Seymour Judith, how many chapters did your version of Story of the Stone have?

Judith (jloucks) | 95 comments John wrote: "Judith, how many chapters did your version of Story of the Stone have?"

It was not called The Story of the Stone but A Dream of Red Mansions. The Stone title appears to be unique to the translation the group read. There were 120 Chapters in the version I read.

The work in Chinese is known by at least two different names, and they have been translated into at least four variations in English. But I am happy to note that our chapter counts are the same, so I will add that to the questions so you can know where we are in our version.

Judith (jloucks) | 95 comments Thanks, John, that will be helpful. I hope I can remember enough detail to add to the discussion. I'm dismayed at how much I forget after I've gone on to other books these days....

Me too. It does seem to help that I've stopped trying to read so fast, which allows me more time to think about what I've read. I'm hoping that reading more broadly again will also help.
