Shirley's Book of Horror question

Hello everyone, I am the author of Shirley's Book of Horror. Because of the one review I've received, I have a question concerning how to do tenses with the audio books. Being inexperienced I gave the book as it was written to the narrator. The internal dialogue was in italics. It never entered my mind that it wouldn't work. Can you not use internal thoughts? I appreciate any feedback.
