Looking forwards to meeting my team - but don't envy you all the behind the scenes stuff - is a HUGE task!

Will try really, really hard to be patient - have books, have wine, have chocolate - yep I can cope! :)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Thanks ;)

It is a really old computer (still has Windows XP!) as I pretty much do everything on the ipad. However, there are certain things that are much better on a desktop... like MS Excel which is what I use to put the teams together.

Here's a teaser for you...

* We will start with 13 teams
--I have only named 4 so far - They are Muppets, Peanuts, Scooby Doo, Princesses. (no you can't request to be on one of those as I've already done the team assignments for 13 teams!)
*I have 9 teams still to be named... happy to take suggestions ; I am taking them from the UNO special edition card pack names (and not re-using those names we had last year)
*We will be starting off with 13 hands of UNO. This is because we have some players this year with large numbers of books they read per month
*Speaking of large numbers, we have one member who reads 100 books per month! So she has agreed to her own individual reading page requirement of 300 page books to be able to count for the challenge (to bring her back to about 60 books per month ;) )
* We will have one ALL Europe members and one ALL Aus/NZ team this year
*I am in spreadsheet heaven... or is that hell? Using the RANDOM function to randomise hands for 13 teams and then create 13 spreadsheets.... and then create 13 team threads.... and then I will need to post them... so... uhm... give me a few days :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Woo hoo. All Aus/NZ team. Can't wait.

Thanks for the teaser, Karen.

I googled and I found a lot of special editions, just as:

One Piece
Frozen
Angry Birds
Hot Wheels
Minions
The Big Bang Theory
Barbie
POKEMON (!!!)
MARIO BROS. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :O I want this one, where can I find it?
Family Guy
Glee
Sponge Bob

Daphne (daphnesm) | 221 comments Looks awesome Karen! Im so excited to meet my team!

Given my name, yay for using Scooby-Doo as a team name. :)

message 170: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Lol Babitix, I've been wondering the same thing as well - some of those decks, I really, really want! Never seen anything but normal Uno in shops though unfortunately.

message 171: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Yay Karen!!

Wonderful teaser :-D So looking forward to this.
I'm curious now if the all Europe team will be peanuts... ;-)

message 172: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Pereira (babitix) | 285 comments I'm definitely unhappy with your European/NZ little game :P

That's not fair!!!! (ok, I'm jealous)

100 BOOKS A MONTH?!?!?! *faints*

message 174: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 611 comments Move over Drishti I'm fainting with you - 100 books A MONTH is 1,200 a year!

Swoon!

message 175: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Gosh, just imagine being able to read so many books! It would give you at least a little hope to get all the books read you want to read in a lifetime. Now it's just a dream far far away haha.

message 176: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Eldarwen wrote: "Gosh, just imagine being able to read so many books! It would give you at least a little hope to get all the books read you want to read in a lifetime. Now it's just a dream far far away haha."

Yes, very, very far away ;)
And signing up for challenges where you basically add more books than you manage to read doesn't help either ;)
(Neither does it help having friends that keep recommending books to read...) ;-)

message 177: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments My sentiment exactly, Eldarwen. Anyone else wake up in the middle of the night in a bit of a panic thinking about how they'll never get to read all the books they want? My husband still thinks I'm crazy when it comes to reading and he's been dealing with me for 40 years!

Karen, thanks again for all your work. I vote we all buy you a new computer! :)

message 178: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments My husband did the math on 100 books a month. Assuming 300 pages per book, 6 hours per day reading for 30 days, it takes 2.1 seconds to read a page!!!

message 179: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments Thanks for all your hard work Karen!!!

I don't know what you used last year but my suggestions are:

TMNT (yay!)
Mario Bros
Care Bears
Wizard of Oz
X-Men
Nightmare Before Christmas
Harry Potter (no doubt this was used last year lol)

message 180: by Melissa (last edited Feb 11, 2016 06:31AM) (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments I would love to be able to read 100 books per month. I think my 12 year old daughter could do it lol She was home sick from school last week and she read 4 books in a day! I was a bit jealous to say the least!! Unfortunately, a little thing like school and homework and sports gets in the way of her reading. ;)

I hadn't recovered enough from 100 books a month to do the math for 1200 books a year. But, now you tell...... *faints again*

I finally did some math too. Assuming there are thirty days in a month, the person reads approximately 3 books a day!! I can't even finish one! LOL!

message 183: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 221 comments I've finished 3 in a day before. Those are days I'm working a long night shift and I can listen to 8-12 hours strait of audiobooks. Then an hour or so of paper/ereading. I actually really like those days because I can completely fall into listening to a book.

message 184: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer E | 172 comments 100 books a month??? I can't even imagine or comprehend this!!! I'm lucky if I finish a chapter a night, just kidding but really how do you do this???

message 185: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments I was once in a challenge with someone who read 300 books per month. There are some HUGE readers using Goodreads! Granted, many of her books were less than 100 pages, but it was still amazing

message 186: by Perks Moderator, Know-it-all (new)

Perks Moderator | 594 comments Huge thanks to Annika who volunteered to be my spreadsheet minion and complete all our sheets while I was sleeping :)

That means that teams are posted!

Spreadsheet of assignments is here

Captains - I suggest you PM your team members if they haven't arrived over the next few days. We will then sort out any reserves/changes to be made by the 25th

I've done 3 in a day too - but the day I did that I was in a plane for 13 hours!!! The books were all less than 300 pages as I didn't want to take heavy books on the plane and do in my bag allowance!!

Caroline (paper_moonshine) | 822 comments I just signed up as a reserve player - somehow I don`t think I should be as nervous as I am xD

message 197: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Teehee
Don't be nervous :)
I generally find there are always a few people that don't end up joining their teams (real life gets in the way) so we should be able to assign you before the challenge starts. I'll review any gaps we have and assign reserves after the 25th
