Quala | 1 comments Do online petitions work? Is Emma Watson going to the jungle to prove that she cared about people, is that really necessary? What if she did not make it. Can we sign a petition to nullify that petition? the link to a new petition to nullify the existing petition is below.

the original petition is below

Whether or not it is being taken seriously, there are numerous articles about it. I would really love to see what Miss Watson has to say on the matter, to be entirely honest. For good or for bad, just an opinion would be nice. I am not going to publicly state my own opinion about refugees--being frank, I do not know enough about the matter to make an informed decision--but Emma clearly does, so her views on the petition would be appreciated and interesting. ^^

Jing Wen (v3lcr0w) | 173 comments You know, the petition only states for her to spend a week there without guards. It never said anything about fans XD. Lets all accompany Emma there!!

I just realize that my jest could have been taken seriously by some people. Sorry :(

message 4: by Ashwin (new)

Ashwin (ashiot) | 215 comments I hardly think Emma has any obligation, moral or legal, to talk about this. She does not need to prove anything to anyone. People will always expect her to do one thing or the other. These expectations can't and shouldn't dictate her life.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

If those pigs who tell her it's her fault that refugees are savage didn't vote people who try to colonize them, they would not have to run away from their countries. We could even help them develop! But that's like asking a Christian to use its brain instead of using preacher's.

But she still needs to understand that if she wants to so something worth the effort she will have to be something radically different than what she is now. If you want to do something, give everything. No hiding and no politeness. If not just don't try anything. Just saying!

I agree 100% with you, Ashwin.

Janos | 34 comments Actually, I will be surprised if she is making a comment to this petition. I mean what will be the next? Send her to the moon because the sun is shining?

Quala,

There are really good and save ways to get to the jungle.
It is a cinematographic experience Im sure Emma would enjoy very much, not only for herself, but for the people shed meet there.
Actually....please dont get me wrong.....id love to see her in the jungle....:)

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

all we know right now is that she's at the World Economic Forum, far away from the jungle hahahaha

message 10: by Astrid (new)

Astrid | 215 comments It's not an actual jungle - it's the refugee camp that's been set up near Calais :)
But I don't think there's any reason to pay attention to this. It's just a guy who's cranky about feminists and wants to "prove" that Muslims are dangerous.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, come on, I just meant that they don't use them properly. Of course they use their brains! Or how do you call it? Their 'souls'?

message 12: by MissSusie (last edited Jan 20, 2016 01:32PM) (new)

MissSusie | 3 comments Hmmm, this thread seems reminiscent of another thread that was deleted. Seems like there are people who have joined Goodreads this month and only joined this group, haven't added any books and are just here to put down and bash Emma.

James Petitioning Emma Watson
Spend one week in a Calais migrant camp for feminism (without bodyguards)

https://www.change.org/p/emma-watson-...

Here is a link to the Petition for Emma Watson
I really think it would be great if everybody were to sign it and show support. It only needs 2500 more signatures but I'm sure it will go way over that.

The issue of refugees and the safety of women is a strongly divisive issue following the mass assault of German women - a country that has accepted around one million refugees in 2015 - by 1000 men on New Year’s Eve. The assault led to the Mayor of Cologne proposing women adopt a “code of conduct” in future to prevent assault.

Ms Watson, who is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, has never publicly opposed refugees, and even tweeted that refugees are “welcome”.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

You really don't get bored ah? Hahaha

You know that the UN means United Nations? You expect someone from that organization to say 'screw you refugees'? Do you think before you write something or you just need to annoy someone in order to compensate your frustrations? Come on, there must be something that you're good at apart from this. Don't despise yourself so much! Just keep trying! You will find your way!

message 15: by James (last edited Jan 24, 2016 05:19PM) (new)

James This Petition is more of a representation to address real issues by feminism. It's more to get Feminist to address issues that are occurring in Germany and across Europe.
The Progressive response in Germany was the Mayor of Cologne proposing women adopt a “code of conduct” in future to prevent assault. This is is victim blaming. Feminist and Progressives have turned a blind eye and declared these problems are caused by all men and male behavior. It would be racist for Progressives to look at cultures from first world countries that support rape and the oppression of women. This is turning a blind eye to real problems and putting women in jeopardy.

Maybe feminist organizations can finally address real issues.

My way adam is not being so idealistic that I disregard truth...I think really trying to spread awareness is more important then keeping up misconceptions and elogical ideologies.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Then thank you for sharing your wisdom. The world will benefit from it, no doubt.

message 18: by James (new)

James Real people are being hurt and no one is saying anything because they are afraid how they may come off. People are more important then politics, movements, images and any other superimposed identities.

message 19: by James (new)

James More then what feminist are doing...No doubt.

message 20: by James (last edited Jan 24, 2016 05:41PM) (new)

James What would be nice is that Feminist Should address issues of Middle eastern and North African culture that Oppresses women and how these issues may have spread with some of the refugee Migrants...Not all the refugees, But you do have people Migrating form different parts of the Middle east predominately men. The Cultures of the Middle east are known for these kinds of practices against women. Feminist have spoken about it in the past, Why not address it now? Instead of victim blaming the women who get assaulted and accusing all men of having these male aggrestions toward women. It's crazy.
Emma Watson would rather go on a panel and talk about how men should be more chivalrous...what a joke.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope she's not stupid enough as to succumb to provocation (as she always does).

message 22: by James (new)

James Adam wrote: "I hope she's not stupid enough as to succumb to provocation (as she always does)."

at least she would be doing something useful with her platform, but really she's just a hired voice for UNforWomen.

message 23: by amelia (new)

amelia (whats_amelia_reading) She doesn't need to do this. Whoever started the petition is insane. I think the fact that she is speaking up on the issue is good enough, and much more than what other actresses out there are doing.

message 24: by Niels (new)

Niels Vandevorst | 15 comments just another weird petition to get attention .. don't bother with it to much. Emma has accomplished so much in her life. And she keeps on fighting for equality . I think she is doing just fine. Who ever started tht petition should try it himself.

message 25: by Agustin (new)

Agustin | 223 comments I'm completely against the idea of Emma going there. I don't know if the author is too naive, innocent and ignorant of if she wants Emma to get killed, raped or both.

Those immigrants are from Middle-east, and come from a place and culture that CONDONE MISOGYNY. Look at what has been happening in Europe because of Middle-eastern immigrants: they rape women just because of the way they dress, they attack then, they see women as inferior beings, most of the time as mere objects! And they want Emma to go there to prove what? The opposite? I'm not an anti-liberal, but this radical liberalism is just going too far.

Emma shouldn't go to the Jungle, for her safety. There's nothing to prove, and if she goes she'll be either raped, killed, tortured or both. Why not send her to spend a week with ISIS?

Just look at this video, the filmmakers went there to help those invaders, and look at the way they were treated, in turn.

Agustin | 223 comments Anyways, Emma has no obligation of doing what a simple, sily petition says, right? Just because a petition tells her to do such thing, she's not going to do such thing.
