Hello Obi-wan and Kathy. Welcome to our group. We are pretty laid-back, so grab a book and play booktivity!

Welcome to our group Donna and Annabel. Hope you have fun here. If you have any questions, ask away.

I have been on Goodreads for a while, but am wanting to get more involved with the reading community. :) I have always loved reading, I live in Virginia with my husband, I graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!), and I am newly a children's book author/illustrator.
Great to meet you all and am excited to dive into this group!

My name is Priyanka and I've been on goodreads for about a year. I am just completing my undergraduate degree from UCSD but will be moving up to NorCal for work after graduation. I've always loved reading but it definitely became a crutch for me in college and I hope I can carry that on as I move. My other hobbies include crafting and dancing. I've wanted to get more involved on Goodreads for some time now and this group seemed really interesting to me :)
Can't wait to get to know you all and read some great books!

Welcome, Khungkhing and Patti. We're a pretty laid back group and welcome readers of every genre. We're happy you've joined us.

Welcome, Vanessa! I retired last year from my work in healthcare administration (pediatric surgery practice). I know that can be hectic! Hope you enjoy our group.

I followed my Goodreads friend JennH here after seeing her posts about a reading scavenger hunt that looked really fun.
I'm kind of all over the place with reading genres, but I most recently loved Beartown and Us Against You by Fredrik Backman. I'm trying to finish the Popsugar Challenge and will hopefully be more successful than in past years.
Welcome, Agumom. We're all about being laid-back so no pressure to take on challenges or write reviews if you find that stresses you out. But ... if you DO want to participate in challenges we'll cheer you on.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll get into some of the challenges and have fun with them :)

Welcome to GRAB A BOOK AND PLAY BOOKTIVITY, Holly. Hope you have fun here. We do have some challenges, but they are low-key ... NO anxiety allowed!

Hi!
I'd love to know what books you read to your students. My daughter loves books and having us read to her (she's not quite 4), but we get stuck in book ruts.
I could see how reading would help with anxiety. I used to smoke and would get so anxious and stressed when I was getting low on cigarettes, I quit years ago, but now I find myself getting similarly stressed if I finish a book and don't have another one ready to go. I'm glad you found your comfort in books :)
Hi, I'm Karen. I'm a life long Minnesotan. I have two grown daughters, no grandkids. I have been on Goodreads almost 4 yrs and really love it. I have always been an avid reader and when I worked full-time I promised myself I would read even more when I didn't have to work, that time is now. 🤓🤓🤓
Thanks for the invite, BC.
Thanks for the invite, BC.

Welcome Karen!
I am also from Minnesota. I no longer live in Minnesota. I moved to North Carolina because we were tired of the winters.
I hope you join all the games in this club
Thanks, Patty. I admit I do think about moving come mid-January but I love living here.
Looks like there are some great challenges here.

Hello, Karen, and welcome to GRAB A BOOK AND PLAY BOOKTIVITY. Hope you have fun here. If you have any questions, ask away.

Well, I'm a member of this group since the first time it was created. I remember someone had invited me to join this group, but can't remember who. Whoever it is, thanks for inviting me. :)
This year, I'm getting back to books. So that's it. :)

Hi! What kind of books do you typically enjoy? The last year of high school is such an exciting time. When it was my final year of high school, I don't think I got much reading done besides what was assigned in school because there seemed to be so much to do!
I have a love/hate relationship with Netflix. I love being able to watch something when I want, like older episodes of a television show, but it's so easy to lose track of time and realize just how much of the day you've wasted because you were binge watching Supernatural or The West Wing without even realizing it. I'm trying to spend more of my time productively, too, so I'm also more aware of the Netflix distraction. I hope you find a good balance!

Hello, Agumom. Nice to meet you.
Balance is what I don't have. A few days ago my mother stopped me from going to Netflix. And now, I'm into games. That is what's happening: shifting from one thing to another, which does no good. I can't even remember when I studied properly. Maybe I'll try in a few days, or maybe my mother's scolding will do the work.
Before I shifted to this new school, I was a fan of myhthological fictions, especially the books by Rick Riordan. And I'm also into other genres like Sci fi and others. I'm thinking of getting into other genres as well.
Do tell me about your favourites. I'd love to know.
(My english might be terrible. Not a native speaker.)

Have you tried any apps or programs that help with time management? I have been using and app called Habitica that is kind of like a game. You complete your daily tasks, to-do list items, and build good habits to level up a character. The character can complete challenges, go on "quests", and fight bosses by completing tasks. I have my program set up so I do at least 30 minutes of reading, 30 minutes of something creatively productive, exercise and workouts, cleaning, and something self-care related like listening to nature sounds, every day. It has helped immensely. Time management was always a problem of mine and I dealt with it with planners and lists, things that worked, but this Habitica thing is much more fun. There are reading groups there, too.
I like books in most genres. In sci-fi, I enjoyed Ready Player One, Ender's Game, and maybe the Chaos Walking series would count. Fantasy and mythology, I liked a lot of Neil Gaiman's work, The Book of Lost Things, and Terry Pratchett's books.

Well, I was using other apps but they didn't do much good. Haven't heard about Habitica. I'll check it out. Probably it'll help. Thanks Agumom.

Thanks and nice to meet you Book Concierge. :-)

I'm a widow, retired research librarian, raised in Michigan (Detroit area) but have lived in New York since 1979.
I've been participating in the word search here for a few months which is my favorite kind of challenge. Book Concierge pointed this group out to me on another site that had ended its word search (of all the nerve to end it).
I have one adult daughter who recently finished her Master's in Public Health and works in Manhattan. So she is close to me, thank goodness. Primarily I'm spending time getting rid of stuff from the last 40 or so years to downsize and relocate so my hobbies are on hold (except for reading of course, and doing challenges) - its unbelievably time-consuming, and an emotional roller coaster.
Very glad to be here.
Glad you joined us, Denise! Hope you're having fun. In fairness to that other group -. putting together the word search does involve some work, especially if (like me) you really want to avoid repeating words within a set time period (I won't repeat within 3 years).
I've considered doing a longer search - more words and a longer time frame - but the thought of organizing it just makes me procrastinate .....

thanks, yes I do understand putting together a word search is not easy! I appreciate your efforts! A monthly, short list is fine - its interesting I sometimes finish other word searches but have never been able to finish one of yours. I still love it tho!

I'm Jenn and Tessa is in a group where I mod, so I thought I'd check out another group and learn about book that maybe outside of my typical genre (historical fiction and non fiction).
I'm a public health grad student, former teacher, and other than reading I love to hike, garden, travel, and go to museums.
