Books about realization,time travel where main character realizes the value of life after being transferred into a different dimension

Hi! I would like some book suggestions about time travel/alternate universes. You know, where the main character is not really happy about their life and wishes to change it. After they do get the life they want, they realize it's not as glamorous.

Something similar to The Christmas Carol, I guess.

Something like this book would be nice:

There are lot of movies around this theme...good idea. I feel like I've read one or two, but now I cannot think of them (of course!).

The Thief of Always - I loved this one as a child. Still good as an adult as well if you like the genre. But it's probably not quite what you're looking for :-)
