Thoughts about this:
1. The trauma of her brother's death has brought out Mia's latent schizophrenia. It is mentioned during the conception of the Inamorata, that they shared imaginative childhood games and that she should take his imaginary lover home with her.
2. The Inamorata represents Mia's brother for her in his absence.
3. To Moritz, Mia is his ideal inamorata, or his better half. He must have felt that Mia could oppose the method far more effectively than he could.
I don't know if any of this is actually what is going on. I just thought of it.
