SciFi - Android story from the 80s or before

Hi,
I am looking for a SciFi story I've been reading in the 80s (if I remember correctly the story had an 80s rather than 70s feel to it but it might be a bit older).
The main character believe himself to be a normal person (I think I remember a business man) who suddenly when under distress (I think he got attacked or so) turned out to be an android / cyborg.
The story then turned into an action-heavy thriller.
I most vividly remember a scene where the character's android / cyborg capabilities kick in, i.e. where he suddenly sees stragic and targeting grids augmenting his view.
I always thought that this was a book by Christopher Priest, but looking through his books I couldn't find anything that resembled this. Though I might have missed the book - or maybe I am making the link to Priest totally up.

Would be very grateful for any hints or tips

I read it ages ago, but as I recall, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

But I am impressed again and again, how may PK Dick books were turned into movies (I know the movie) - and how (unfortunately) bad the execution of most of them is :(
