Ok so this may seem a little soon, barely into 2016, however it can sit here for a few months to give all a chance to have some input.

So this is the place where we can decide what the categories will be for choosing the 2017 books.

We need twelve categories, if you are not sure and want a reference, check out the 2016 book selection topic under the 2016 book discussion folder. If you liked any of the categories in there you can re-suggest them for this or you can suggest a new category.

A book originally published in a language other than English.

or

A book published by a male author.

or

A book you think will make you laugh your pants off...

Try and think outside the box when suggesting a category, this way we could all discover new books we might end up adding to our favourite pile.

Above all (even if it's at the bottom) have fun and I look forward to your suggestions. xx

Some great categories. I particularly like the "A book that got poor reviews" Though I do wonder if this will be a one that had poor reviews for a reason.

I think it would depend on which book you choose. Sometimes books will get a poor review when they come out because they're a bit beyond the times but when you pick them up years later it's easier to see where the author was coming from and it'll end up being a really good read. That would be the sort of book I'd be interested in reading. Especially if you could find some of those reviews and compare your own reading experience to them.
