12. Characterize Bill Haydon and his relationship with Ann (chapter 18).

BIll is a narcissist. We learn that it was a fake relationship and the Bill only had an affair with her in order to prevent Smiley from seeing what he was really doing. When Smiley asks him about the affair, Bill paused for a second having to recall "which Ann" Smiley was talking about. It was part of the job that was requested of him by Karla to mess with Smiley
