How do I ...?
Most of the time if I go under "my books" and type in the name of a series, it will pull up all that I have read so I can see which number to get next. Hope this helps.
Nospin wrote: "Is there a page on Goodreads that shows all your series? That was a feature I used a lot on Shelfari"
I know there is a series challenge. Jonetta is the expert on that, among other things.
Clara wrote: "Most of the time if I go under "my books" and type in the name of a series, it will pull up all that I have read so I can see which number to get next. Hope this helps."Clara, you can also pull up the series list by selecting the grayed series title on the book page, located next to the book title. It will list the books in the series and show which you've read, have to be read or haven't placed on your shelf.
I would like to know how to leave a group. I joined some groups that I wish I had not joined. Am I committed with no way out?
At the top of the group page, under the description, you will see:You are a member. Edit | Group info
Click on edit and then the "leave group" button.
Jonetta wrote: "Go to the group's home page, select "edit" and then you'll see the option to "Leave this group.""Thanks Lauren and Jonetta.

This is what I'll do this time, but is there any way to do it from the person's profile page? Thanks!
No. You can only edit your friends from your friends list. There's also a search field you can use to find the person.

Thanks, Jonetta!
For anyone who feels overwhelmed by the number of "new" posts when joining a group....I saw the following tip in a group and it may seem obvious to some but it was a lightbulb moment for me :-)
2. Click Unread on the homepage. You will find this to the right of 'Discussion Board' in grey.
3. Roll all the way to the bottom of the page and click 'Mark all as Read'
4. You will now probably have an empty page. Now click refresh on your browser and watch the live discussions start building.
5. Whenever you return to the group click on Unread to see what has been going on.
Of course you will miss all the old discussions this way but as you get more confident in the group you can go and meander around the cobwebbed threads!

Saw a comment in the Shelfari Questions about unlinking your Facebook account from Goodreads, and thought I would post the instructions here as well:To those who are getting their Facebook friends automatically added to their Goodreads account - you can stop this from happening by unlinking your Facebook account.
Here are the steps:
1. Click on the little arrow next to your avatar
2. Go to "edit profile"
3. In the menu going across the top of the page, click "apps"
4. Click the "Disconnect from Facebook" button
This will unlike your account so friends from Facebook will no longer be automatically added. You may have to manually delete the ones that have already been added.
In Shelfari, it was possible to see on one page, the reviews that other people wrote. I found this handy when a stranger asked to be my friend. I would read their reviews and make a judgement if I wanted to be friends. It is nice that I am getting friend requests, but I don't see how I might review their book reviews. Is there a way to review a persons book reviews?
Ramon4 wrote: "In Shelfari, it was possible to see on one page, the reviews that other people wrote. I found this handy when a stranger asked to be my friend. After you have clicked on a new post why doesn't the red line disappear showing the post has been read?
Is there a way to see - from someone's profile - what groups they are in? That often helps me figure out if I (should!) know/recognize someone after a friend request.

Yes.
Go to their profile page and scroll down to the section that says "so and so's groups". It is below the "recent updates" section.
Also, you can ask a challenge question for friend requests. For example, I have a "where do I know you from" question that people who send friend requests are required to answer. You can set this up on your profile under the settings tab.

Is there a way to make a printable list of our books, for instance I would like to make a copy of my wish list (to be read list) when I go to the book store?

Fewer and fewer things are working there.

Yes, you can print your list. Go to "My Books" - make sure you are in "list view"
Click on the shelf you want to print
Click on "print" in the top right hand corner and the page will open in a new window
Select the "print" option in whatever browser you have.

I was trying to print the "favorites" shelf of books from shelfari, I think your instructions are to print from a different site. Shelfari has all the info I find most valuable and I would love to simply print the appropriate pages to save as a reference. On shelfari I have 68 favorites, on GR I have 11.
Dosha (Bluestocking7) wrote: "I was trying to print the "favorites" shelf of books from shelfari, I think your instructions are to print from a different site.."Sorry. I thought you were talking about how to print on GR as this is the "How do I..." thread for the site.
I've never tried to print from Shelfari, but I can only assume that Amazon are slowly shutting all the services down.
Did you export your library to a csv file? If you did, you can open it in Excel or Google sheets and print from there.
Lauren wrote: "Dosha (Bluestocking7) wrote: "I was trying to print the "favorites" shelf of books from shelfari, I think your instructions are to print from a different site.."Sorry. I thought you were talking ..."
I did the export. I have the library file on my desktop; to which I refer on a regular basis. I guess that is as good as it gets. Thanks.
Lauren wrote: "Go to their profile page and scroll down to the section that says "so and so's groups". It is below the "recent updates" section."Thank you. For some reason, I was looking at the stuff listed on the right rather in the main section of their page.
Dosha (Bluestocking7) wrote: "I was trying to print the "favorites" shelf of books from shelfari, ..."Dosha, I'll see if I can talk you through printing at shelfari. I printed my tbr that way (it took sooo many pages, but that's probably because there are 500+ books on it!).
You know where to find your Favourites on shelfari, yes?
From there, just above your visual bookshelf, you'll see a drop down menu (a down-facing arrow) beside the word "shelf". Click on the drop-down menu. In that list near the bottom, you should see "list view". Click that. Then wait - mine is taking a while to load. :-)
Ok, it looks like it loaded the list view of everything, not just favourites, BUT that's OK!
Just above the brown-ish banner, you'll see "show books from" then another drop-down menu (the down arrow). click that arrow. You should see an option for Favourites. Click that.
That should be much quicker, as there are fewer books. It is now displaying the first 50 on your list. You can make that number bigger to display them all (you said you have 68; there is a maximum of 150 to display at a time, but 68 is well under that).
Anyway, next step. Right beside where you saw "show books from" and chose Favourites from the drop-down menu, you'll see another drop down menu where you can click the arrow and tell it to display 100 or 150 books. Select either of those and it should list all 68 of your favourites.
From here, you can print.
Just fyi, for some reason when I printed my tbr, the covers were blank, but I got the list of titles, etc.
Please let me know if that helps or if you need further instruction. Good luck!
Sorry - I'm sure it probably says "Favorites", not "Favourites" (which is, of course, the way I am used to spelling it!). LOL!

I'm not yelling at you, I'm just excited! Whoop Whoop!! I have 7 pages of favourites, and like you said, the title is there, but not the image. That is just fine.

Tracey wrote: "LOL Dosha, I can actually feel your excitement :-)"By the ides of March, I will have hard copy of my bookshelf in all categories. I will use the csv file for specific information regarding purchase price, date of purchase and reviews, etc. then create my scrapbook combining both sources of spreadsheet and printed shelves. Or, I'll do nothing but have the list of books and be satisfied with that. it sure is nice to have a choice.

How do I leave a group? It's not obvious when I go into the group. (Kind of like "unfriending" someone isn't obvious, either.) Thanks!
LibraryCin wrote: "How do I leave a group? It's not obvious when I go into the group. (Kind of like "unfriending" someone isn't obvious, either.) Thanks!"
Go to the group's home page. You'll see an "edit" option next to "You are a member." Once you select "edit," you'll see the option to leave the group.
Thank you, Jonetta. Now, why is it so difficult (somewhat hidden!?) to get rid of anything here! Groups, Friends, Books...
I somehow have accidentally added another edition of a book I already have on my shelf (added ratings, reviews, tags, etc). How do I get rid of one of them? Again, can't seem to find the option in any obvious place.
Thanks, again.

Unfortunately not but you can always use Fictfact.com. Wonderful site for keeping track of series.
