I am from the Netherlands, married, with three children, who also greatly enjoy reading. I've studied English literature, but I will read almost anything. I just don't like to read translations, since you often miss out on the subtleties. So, I usually try to read books in their original language, if possible.

Hi Monica. Welcome to the group. Hope you share things about your life from the Netherlands from time to time.

Hi everyone. I have been searching for just the right group, where members sometimes "talk" with each other (instead of at each other) and am hoping this is it. Hopefully that statement makes some sense. :) Also, I appreciate the fact that this group doesn't have a specific required monthly book to read.
Otherwise, I enjoy reading many different types of books, especially historical fiction. I live on the west coast of the US, with my husband. My other activities includes practicing yoga, exploring new walking trails and sketching.

Hi, Lisa Ann, welcome to Paging All Bookworms!
By the way ... you do NOT have to track your page count, though many of our members do.

Hi Lisa Ann. Welcome to the group. When ever you feel like chatting, I am here!
Thanks, Paige. What a kind thought!

Welcome to the group, Lisa Ann! Glad you could join us :)

PS: Where can a member post a random question about books?
Thanks!

Not sure exactly what you are asking. But in this group we have a thread for reviews / comments. JUNE's review thread
There is also a general Chit Chat thread.
Or did you have something else in mind?

Hi. I guess the Chit Chat Corner will do just fine. Thanks.

I came across this group via a friend's page. I am currently living in North Carolina. Some of my hobbies are gardening, needle arts, foreign languages and, of course, reading! My reading interests vary but I have a special love of murder mysteries.

I go to a private school in Virginia. My hobbies are reading and studying. I usually read 40 minutes a day. I can't wait to join this group! Sounds like a lot of fun. :D

You should enjoy it here then! Welcome :)

Favorite reading topics: Ancient to Modern Western Civ. history, Art history, Military history, biographies, (usually) non-romantic and non-sentimental fiction. I like historical fiction too.
I'm learning to speak Italian and French.
Usually twice a week, my husband I lead a secular and generally tame discussion group on various controversial topics including philosophy, religion, politics, and etc.
I have a fine arts background which led me into starting my own business having to do with planning for home improvement, decorating or building a new house. I also work at a paint store doing color consulting.
Oh, and I like to dance, I'm not good at it but I like it anyway.

Welcome to the group, ilikeboox! (Love your user name...)
I have always wanted to learn French ... my training in Latin, plus Spanish, means I can usually read most of the romance languages - that is, well enough to understand basic directions, menus and the little explanatory notes in museums. I can even understand spoken Italian a little ... once, when lost in Rome, I stopped a nun to ask directions ... she rattled off in Italian. When she was finished I thanked her and said to my husband ... we go straight for 3 blocks, right for 2 block, left for 3 more blocks and another right and we should be there. He asked how I got that and I said I recognized words for "straight" "right" "left and the numbers ... plus I watched her hand motions! But I don't understand French except for the occasional common word.
I love the idea of having a regular discussion group!

Well perhaps you will join us sometime at our group!
Oh, and thank you for the compliment on my user name.

Hey, girl! So nice to see you here! Sorry I haven't talked to you for so long. Hope you're having a great summer. I'll send you an email & we can catch up! Welcome to the group :)

I hope you are enjoying your summer too. I look forward to your email and seeing your comments here as well.

In addition to reading I enjoy photography, salt-fresh water fishing, hitting the range and am self teaching myself to knit and sew.
I don't really have a favorite genre, but my favorite authors are Nora Robers / JD Robb, Kristin Hannah, Emily Giffen, Linda Castillo, Patricia Briggs.
Looking forward to chatting with you.

Welcome Julia. I'm also a knitter.

I am a high school math teacher living in La Mesa, CA (just east of San Diego). My youngest daughter is a college sophomore this year, so we are doing the empty-nest thing (unless you start counting cats and chickens; we have enough of those to keep us plenty busy).
Does anyone have any suggestions for setting a reasonable page goal without actually counting up last years pages? My challenge last year was for 104 books. I like epic fantasy, so I read plenty of long books, but I branch out into all kinds of other things, too. I was thinking of saying 500 pages per week, but perhaps 600 is more realistic? Not many novels these days seem to come in at under 300... thoughts?

Welcome Kajoli! We're happy to have you join us.
You can go to your profile page ... and on the right you'll see "KAjoli's Year in Books" Click on that link and you'll get (unfortunately) the 2018 year. But if you go into the URL field, you can change the year to 2017 ... be sure to ONLY change the year .. you'll need that number at the end to identify your profile.
Anyway that will give you all the statistics you might ever want!

And like BC said you can use your Goodreads statistics from last year to give yourself an idea for a 2018 goal also.
Good luck! It sounds like you really like to read :)

Glad to have you, Lara! Hope we can share some recommendations with each other! :)

I'm Diana, I'm 32 and currently live in Vancouver, Canada. I like to play tennis, I teach yoga and... my cat is famous on Instagram :).
I moved to Canada in 2013 and out of this experience, the hardest I've had, a book has "emerged". My wish is to make anyone's move to another country easier, faster, cheaper and more pleasant... unlike mine.
I appreciate you for being here, for reading and for being open to the world. I believe that by reading you become a better person and you contribute to a better world. Thank you for doing that :).
Much love,
Diana
