Sovanratana (booksandpugs) Has anyone seen the Shadowhunters TV show yet? What do you think? I LOVED it! I think it was loads better than the movie and very easy to understand. Don't think I have any complaints :D

Stephanie I have it recorded but haven't watched it yet. Have you read the books? Love love love the books!! I'm excited to watch the show. I saw the movie and really liked it :) I'm excited to watch the TV show :)

Stephanie I just got done watching the first episode. I liked it. The acting for some of the actors was a bit off but I'm sure it will get better as the show progresses. There were a few things that bugged me but probably because I love the books so much. Why do they have to change things from the book? Like changing characters (Maureen and Luke) and adding characters that weren't in the books or leaving out characters that were in the books.

Too bad they couldn't get the actors from the movie to reprise their roles for the show:) weren't the characters younger than 18 in the books?

Delitealex | 336 comments I watched the first episode I liked it eventhough I read only the first two books so long ago I felt like there were some differences. I never saw the movie but heard many didn't like it. I hope to start over from the beginning and read the series sometime soon.

Stephanie Hi Delitealex! I watched the movie first and then found out there were books! I was so excited because I really liked the movie :) it would have been awesome if the characters from the movie could have reprised their roles for the TV show :) I liked Jaime as Jace better than the new actor. I'm still going to watch the show and try as hard as I can to not compare it to the books and movies all the time ;) we shall see if I can do that :)

I second that. Jamie is such an awesome Jace. He's cute enough and you can just see Jace in him. Too bad we have new casts now :(

I think you should see the movie, it'a actually not bad, if you focus on the plot and where the movie is goong rather than the casts' acting (which I have no problem with tbh, don't know why people are complaining about that)

I do remember creating this thread in the 'Off Topic Chat' section but I supposed it must have ended up somewhere else.

I miss the old casts so bad :( the only ones in the TV show that I like are Kat (Clary), Matthew (Alec), and Emeraude (Izzy). Personally, I don't think Dom is hot enough to play Jace but oh well :/ I liked that we get Dot instead of Dorothy (that woman is freaky af), don't think adding in Maureen was necessary. And I do wonder how they are going to include contents of all seven books in 13 episodes.

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) @Stephanie: Lady Midnight is coming out soon! So excited!

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments OH WHAT! Not on TV in the UK as far as I'm aware. But on Netflix. So shall have to wait =[

message 15: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I agree in regards to the new Jace. I liked Jaime from the movie and felt he was more in to himself like in the books. I like the TV Magnus. Hopefully the cast grows as the show progresses. I guess I can't expect the first show to be perfect :)

That is where Dot is from! I was wondering where she came from since I don't remember Jocelyn friends with a Dot in the books :)

message 16: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie A new book?!? Yay!!!!!!

Hopefully the show comes out soon on Netflix, Sarah!

message 17: by Sovanratana (new)

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) I do have links to watch them online for both episodes if you want them?

message 18: by Sovanratana (new)

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) I just watched a video and realized Dot is short for Dorothy. But I like her better. She's not too scary. And yes there will be six more books! Two spin off series and one of the books will be coming out this year. So excited!

I've seen the first episode now. It's okay so far. I think I prefer the other Jace. Dorothy was creepy in the movie. Her character in the first episode was really strange, she didn't seem like an odd enough character.

I prefer the mother actress from the movie. And Luke didn't play a cop in the movie or book.. right? I shall have to read it again, I forgot.

message 20: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Nope..Luke owned a bookstore in both the movie and the book :) I don't like that he is a cop in the show but I will keep watching hoping that they don't stray further and further from the books :)

message 21: by Sovanratana (new)

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) I prefer the old Jace as well :( too bad he's not casted

message 22: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie ^^jaime = perfect Jace :-)

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) True haha

Delitealex | 336 comments Finally watched the second episode I'm liking it so far and will probably get caught up today. I'm not liking their choice for Jace though. I definitely love Clary and Isabella.

message 25: by Sovanratana (new)

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) Ikr! I don't like the TV show Jace. I'm on episode 5 right now and tbh, I don't like the show.

What's making you not like the show? The story lines acting to many differences from the book?

message 27: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Same here :( this last week's episode was probably the best though acting wise. Maybe if I hadn't seen the movie I would like the show more?
Does it bother anyone else the way the actor pronounce some of the words in the show? I guess in my mind I read the words differently...for example parabatai and Idris.

message 28: by Sovanratana (new)

Sovanratana (booksandpugs) @Delitealex they misinterpreted and over sexualized Izzy and added in wayy unnecessary sex, make out sessions and cringe in episode 3. The acting sometimes is pretty terrible. Clary and Jace have like, no chemistry in the show. In the first book, it was little catches of what Jace said and Clary's thoughts that tells us that they like each other. In the show, it's like they don't even do anything together, sure they fight and stuff but never anything cheesy or romantic then suddenly it's like, Jace likes Clary. It feels out of nowhere and so abrupt. They made the fact that Simon is a vampire too obvious, I think it would've been more fun if they threw in hints vaguely over the episodes then make the big reveal. Also, Jace and Alec fights way too much than they're supposed to. I mean, you're goddamn parabatai, do you even need to talk about trust? Of course you trust each other. And ugh the lines and acting and actors annoy me so so much.

message 29: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I dislike the show too,

The programme feels like it's aimed at guys with all the over sexualisation. They can only sell it that way I suppose? Urgh! It's ridiculous, and the acting is terrible. I dislike most of the members of the cast, I couldn't even get through the second episode.
