Modestly introducing Tallis Steelyard (Now nominated!)
Jim wrote: "Tallis is never less than charming.(Which on mature consideration doesn't really tell us anything at all does it ;-) )"
Nope; he would never insult a potential patron.
Jim wrote: "Life is too short to insult potential patrons. I suspect they all have excellent memories :-)"Not after they have been drinking wine with Tallis!
well that probably largely depends on the quality of wine that they're buying. If they serve rubbish they can hardly complain at unfortunate side effects

absolutely, available in three tasteful colours!
ah but it weathers into a most delicate primrose if left out in the sun for a year or so, and also can end up a must beautiful pale green if it spends a winter in slurry as well :-)
I wandered into our local agricultural engineers many years ago to buy a new pair of working jeans. The lass behind the counter asked me what sort I'd like, so I just said "A pair like those I'm wearing."
(They were clean on that morning so were clean.)
So looked at them and said doubtfully, "I don't think we have any in that colour."
Actually it was rather a pleasant if 'washed out' colour. The jeans had faded to pale blue and the green hadn't darkened. To be honest if you could replicate to colour from new they'd probably sell to people who didn't know :-)
and a little something which shows how well things work when you leave them to Mutthttps://workingtitleblogspot.wordpres...
I suspect he'd thrive in any big city. I remember a Newcastle Lawyer advising a client. Somebody owed the client serious money and showed no sign of paying. The client was told, "For £2000 you could make him bankrupt, or in this city for £200 you could get him seriously beaten up"
I've often felt that I would make an excellent poet in residence, but after hearing this tale I beg leave to doubthttps://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...
Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "I didn't realise that being a poet would involve climbing ropes and wet rocks!"I suspect that if you're a wealthy poet you have people to do that for you.

It did occur to me that Tallis was doing his best to keep people busy and trying to stop them bumping into each other. Pouring drink into them can work for a whileBut can obviously go wrong as well
and ought to be done under strict supervision. There is a limit to how many excitable ladies a chap should attempt to pour strong drink into at any one time

and the wisdom of keeping moving :-)
