Thanks Tessa :) I know the site isn't really intuitive (that's been one of my biggest hurdles with this effort).
The first 5$ credit should be delivered to your email address just for having signed up (you need to click on the "claim" button in the email to get them).
The second 5$ comes from recommending a book on the site using the recommend via : Inkshares button (large black button next to the twitter, facebook and email buttons at the top of the page) For it to accept a recommendation you need to write something (anything) and the new credits should be on their way to you by email within a couple of minutes. Once you have claimed those, the price of the eBook will be listed as 0$ which you can then "pre-order" for free.
The review or recommend is supposed to be based on the sample chapters (I have a prologue and 4 chapters posted). Some authors on the site post more, others less.
Recommending a book to a friend (via email, facebook or twitter) gets you a further 10$ credit if that person uses the link you sent them and pre-orders the book you recommended. (which even makes it possible to get a free physical copy of the book if you live in the states and can benefit from the free shipping)

It's a great community for writers actually. Very supportive and helpful bunch and the publication model is a nice halfway point between self-publishing and going with the major publication houses and all the complications that entails. The current contest is fraying my nerves but it's been a great experience over all.

I'm 3rd, and there are only 2 days left in the contest but number 4 is a teacher and he's signing up all his students and gaining fast.
Could I ask you to sign up on Inkshares and pick up a copy? It's quite easy to get 10$ credit which makes the eBook pre-order free (no Credit card or paypal required) I would be forever grateful if any of you can help me out!
