Racheal (otherworldlyreader) | 143 comments I just finished Winter and loved it! ^.^

message 4: by Karin (new)

Karin I finished Winter and gave it 4 stars (3.5 rounded up).

Racheal (otherworldlyreader) | 143 comments Karin what did you think of Winter?

I just read The Sea Queen (The Dark Queens #1) by Jovee Winters. It's suppose to be a love story between Hades and Calypso... ugh, baaaaad book. The writing was just awful and nothing was explained. =/ I hate it when you get bad books like that.

message 6: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Chant (cchant) I'm currently reading (well, listening to, I have the audiobook) THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE. Not sure it's considered a YA but the story so far (I'm about 4 chapters in), feels very YA. I'm enjoying it, but I didn't realize when I picked it up that it was a fantasy (not my favorite genre), so we'll see how it goes. So far it feels grounded enough in the real world that I think I'll be fine with it.

I didn't care much for it, but would like to see what you think.

I gave it 3.5 stars. The writing level is solid, but I thought it was longer than it needed to be, so at times I wasn't as into it as the first 2.5 books (the first part of Scarlet wasn't my favourite writing, either, but my girls don't agree!) Still, it looks like there might be one more, or so I heard, and I think it's worth reading if you like the Cress series.

message 9: by Racheal (new)

Racheal (otherworldlyreader) | 143 comments Karin, do you mean another book in the Lunar Chronicles or another book that's similar to Cress? I do agree that the book was a bit long. I personally really enjoyed it, however my mom thinks that there was too much going on at times that it was hard to follow along. Which, I could see that when reading it. I can also see maybe a few small scenes being cut, but those mostly involved Winter. I've just gotta remind myself that even though it's a conclusion to the series, it's still Winter's story, just like the other books revolved around Cress, Scarlet and Cinder.

Thanks. I'd never even heard of Fairest until I saw it on the back; do I need to read that as well??

Okay, once I'm finished the other two books I'm reading, I'll look for it. I want to see if something Levana said about Cinder's mother was true or not (wasn't really curious about Cinder's mother much before that.)

I really really liked Fairest. It gave some much needed insight into Levana's past.

Now I'm about half way through The Last Letter to Your Lover by Jojo Moyes. And of course it's fantastic.

Okay, I'm going to keep this in mind. So many books, so many challenges, so little time. But it would help the story.
