I'm currently getting some banners designed to announce the release date for my next novel and I was after some advice about the date format. I'm from the UK and when writing the date the usual format is DD/MM/YYYY but I know in the US it is usually written as MM/DD/YYYY. I don't want to create any confusion over the release date and the majority of my readers are in the US so would it be better to use the US date format or stick to the UK one?

Then say it like this: Jan 12, 2016
I'd agree with Morris to use the spelled out date, but I would add the actual day name and use the UK format as it is more widely known, even here in the States. Example: Saturday, 19 July 2010
If you spell out the month, you can keep your native format without any confusion for American readers: 12 February 2016. My instinct is to see 12/02/2016 as December 2nd. However, I think the spelled out format looks eloquent without the comma. Since you're not American, there's no need to spell it out using our format.
If you want, you could do one style for US posts and the other for everywhere else - like if you were using the metric system ;)
I think whatever style you do the rest of the book, do it that way. If your going to spell color-colour, then stick with British all the way-don't worry about it. I had to get use to single quotes for speech, but I got over it.
