I am part way through this book and sadly about to give up on it because the characters have become too stereotype and very annoying. I particularly dislike the talking picture.
Is it worth continuing and does it get any better?

Well, I actually liked the "talking picture." It is the author's way of weaving in history and I found some very interesting information about how paintings are authenticated. I don't know exactly how far you are in the book, but there is an interesting twist coming.
