K.A., I think it would be a great book to read. I am going to put it on my wish list.

If they were in the U.S. they could mail it to me, if outside, would probably be too costly.

I gave 3 stars to Conquering Darkness: Memoir of the Serial Killer's Wife. She's a very inexperienced writer and she's really biting off more than most professional authors could chew in this story, but she made it work, despite some very, very purple prose.
I'll See You AgainI'll See You Againby Jackie Hance and Janice Kaplan. This is a wonderful and courageous book to read and I recommend it.3+ Stars
I finished Murder in Pleasanton: Tina Faelz and the Search for Justice this morning; I really enjoyed it. It's well-written and clearly the author had pretty decent access to all parties involved -- he even got a little here and there from the defendant, despite the fact that the man wanted nothing to do with him. I recommend it.
Finished Mountain Madness last night. This was a really, really good read. It's an unusually well-constructed TC story, written to keep you turning the pagers, parsed in clear English and properly edited (for a change). It's not especially weird or gory, but psychologically very interesting and legally even more so. This story is also a powerful testament to the way a single unreliable witness can gum up a perfectly good criminal investigation. I'm also very happy to report that there are no spoilers in the jacket copy, the book's introduction or anywhere else. I have also rarely read a more satisfying ending in a book of this type. Read this one. You won't be sorry.
I marked it as 'Want to Read', but was amused to see a typo in the very first sentence of the description!

I was researching this book after your recommendation and it looks like the same book later published as "Murder on Shadow Mountain"(?)

Got it. Bell, I can send it to you when I am done.
K.A. wrote: "I marked it as 'Want to Read', but was amused to see a typo in the very first sentence of the description!"Blast you, Autocorrect! I am a lousy typist, but since Autocorrect became universal I seem to spend more time taking out the mistakes it puts in than I do typing what I want to type and correcting my own friggin' mistakes.

Yes, indeedy. That appears to be the same book. Going to add that to the pertinent warning discussion.

Actually, it wasn't you...it was his own description of the book on the book's page. You're okay!

Shattered by Debra Puglisi Sharp. Wow! This lady is one strong woman. She went through a kidnapping, rape and murder of her husband to come out stronger in the end. This is not a 'feel sorry for me' book. It is well-written. The story moves along quickly, although at times becomes bogged down in the details. Once I started I couldnt put it down. 5 stars. There is a good lesson here on what to do if something similar should ever happen. Shattered: Reclaiming a Life Torn Apart by Violence
Just finished "The Riverman: Ted Bundy & I hunt for the Green River Killer". Good read but not what I expected from the title. You don't "exactly" get to Ridgway until pg 439.

Fishface, I posted a review here on True Crime Read in 2016 about the The Kitty Genevese Murder but I don't see any trace of it. It seems to have disappeared. What is up with that....?

Oh dear, I didn't press save. DANG & DOUBLE DANG! I better do it again and this time press save. THANKS Fishface!
I just started Murders in the Mist: Who Killed Dian Fossey?, and it's quite wonderful. The guy writing it is setting out to prove the man accused of it was innocent. While I agree the reasons given for the murder are very unlikely, I'm still skeptical. After all, his name is WAYNE.
Finished Dismembered. If I can ever think about this book without wanted to puke or find Sean Vincent Gillis and dismember HIM, I'll write a review.

He can't be ALL bad. Don't you wonder about that homeless woman, Eugenie? Was she murdered at all? If she was, did Gillis do it?

Finished Fighting the Devil. Zippy, I did not like this one as much as you did. It was just kind of weird and I had some questions when I was done. The biggest question I had was: Why, if this guy was abusive and they had been divorced for quite a few years did she give a rat's ass what happened to him. Second question: if she was so shook up about his death, why did she have such a big grin on her face when she asked someone to take a picture of her standing next to his coffin.

I think she did it to write a book and get back in her own little sweet way. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth about the abuse and the lack of communication. I gave it three stars only because it keep me entertained.

I think I would have liked this book a lot more if it was written by an unbiased author. You are right. This lady seemed like she was out to get the current wife. She was also a little strange. I wasnt quite buying the paranormal aspect.

I agree 100%. I think she tossed in the paranormal aspect to ride along the mention of the fact their is Native American in their blood.
Finished Murders in the Mist: Who Killed Dian Fossey? and gave it 5 stars. Very hard to put down despite the hard-to-pronounce Rwandan names -- Rwelekana being a typical example -- and the fact that it was entirely composed of interviews with people who were too afraid of reprisal to say very much to the author. The author persisted and he got his answers. Read this one!
Just finished Nothing Is Strange with You: The Life and Crimes of Gordon Stewart Northcott by James Jeffrey Paul. These crimes took place in California in the late 1920's. I give the above book 4 stars but the better book, in my opinion, is The Road Out of Hell: Sanford Clark and the True Story of the Wineville Murders by Anthony Flacco. That one I give 5 stars to.
Both are great reads about a totally bizarre serial killer. The first book has a lot on the trial which was pretty interesting. (view spoiler)

The Road Out of Hell was an awesome book. I also gave it 5 stars.
I just finished a very well written book, Similar Transactions, by S. R. Reynolds. It's right up there with some of the best true crime writers I've ever read. The author, on her own, set out to uncover the cold case of a missing 15-year old girl and found a string of rapes across the South attributed to one man, a known serial rapist. I was impressed at how cooperative law enforcement people, as well as the perp's victims, were. It's a very compelling read.
I too read Similar Transactions: A True Story by S.R. Reynolds. It's a great read. The author is amazing.

Just finished I Would Find a Girl Walking by Kathy Kelly about serial killer Gerald Stano. I gave it 3.5 stars. It was okay but a big part of the book was filled with "Jerry's" letters to the author that got a bit repetitive and boring.
There is another book about Stano called Blind Fury. Has anyone read that one? If so, what did you think?
