Review: This was such a satisfying conclusion to the series. Some things did seem very far-fetched and some events did get resolved very quickly, but I still loved it. Ellie drove me crazy in the last 2 books, but I really liked her in this one. And of course Camden is my favorite. So happy that (view spoiler) Despite reading a lot of reviews that said this was their least favorite in the series, this one was my favorite. But I'm a sucker for romance and cheesy endings. I'm definitely planning to read more books by this author.

Review: I really like this series, there is character growth and great plot development. There are some things that annoyed me but overall it was a grear continuation of the series. We finally know what type of supernatural she is, not that that cleared all the questions I had but there are more books so I hope everything is cleared out.

Rusty Nail (Jack Daniels Mystery, #3) by J.A. Konrath by J.A. Konrath
Finished: 2/9/16
Rated: ★★★★

Harry McGlade is getting married?! Who would marry him? Oh yeah, Holly. She's just as annoying as Harry. Jack can't get away from either one fast enough, but now she has to be Harry's best man. On top of that....The Gingerbread man is back! Kinda. This time, we get the whole crazy family.

Just like the previous books, this one has enough gore and violence to creep you out and make you double check your closets (damn closets!). But Jack's humor and sarcasm balances it out and allows you to continue reading unscathed, unlike the characters. It was a happy ending, but no one got out free.

Book: Half the World by Joe Abercrombie

Half the World started out so slow; I was actually afraid I might have to DNF it. Thankfully the characters were interesting and it finally picked up around the 50% mark. I loved that we got to see several of the characters from the first book, but I also enjoyed Thorn and Brand's story as well. This book just goes to show how Joe Abercrombie loves to play the long game in his series and I can't wait for the big battle in the final book!

I changed my book because this week has been incredibly long and I decided I needed to read something I knew I would be able to get through quickly. This was a reread for me and not one of my favorites from the series. This is where we first meet McNab and where Summerset began to accept Eve. I just love the characters even if I don't like parts of the story.

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
Read 2/11/16
★★★★

Review: First off, I am a huge Stephen King fan, and Joe Hill is his son. I was a little bit skeptical about this book, but I was nicely surprised. Joe is a very good storyteller, just like his dad. This book was reminiscent of King's works, and even had bits and pieces thrown in that I am sure were tributes to Dad. The story revolves around Victoria, who as a young girl discovers her bicycle can take her over a secret bridge and help her find things. Charlie Manx is a psychopath who rides around in a 1933 Rolls Royce that has apparently stolen his soul. He kidnaps children and takes them to Christmasland. Vic miraculously escapes Manx's clutches, then many years later he comes to take her son. My only complaint is I didn't like the ending. I really enjoyed reading this and I'll read more of Joe Hill's books.

I finished the audiobook of this earlier this year. It was also my first Joe Hill. I expected the horror elements to be good, but I was surprised at how well-drawn all the characters were, including their flaws and struggles. Mr. Hill definitely seems like a writer to watch.

This is one of those situations where I would like goodreads to have a half-star, because I would rate this 3.5. Chet's inner voice, one of the things that made this series so entertaining, wasn't quite as amusing - good, but not amazing as it had been. The story took a bit to get started, but the pace picked up midway through and the story went rolling right along. It was still a good read and the Bernie and Chet duo are worth continuing the series for.

@team - I'm so sorry to be so last-minute these past two weeks. :(

Review:This book had two elements that if I learn that they were included in a book, I would pick it up. It is a book about time travel and it includes pirates, what better than that?
I really liked the story overall, however, I enjoyed it a lot more in the first part, when they were on the ship. Afterwards, I found myself dozing off on some places.
My favorite character has to be Etta. She was kick-ass, not nearly as annoying as some else protagonists. She was always looking out for others.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will certainly continue this series.

Review: More of the same with the author phoning it in as usual. I keep reading this series hoping there is some character development, or at least hot scenes involving Ranger. Sadly, this book has only what I've come to expect: cars blowing up, at least 2 funerals, Lula eating donuts, Stephanie worrying about what she's going to wear, Stephanie getting kidnapped, Stephanie flirting with Morelli and Ranger, and Grandma being Grandma. The plot about biological terrorism was at least partially interesting and the author might have done a bit of research for this, but no she probably paid someone to do that.

Driven was a great return to The Otherworld, though I did feel a little lost from time to time because I somehow missed reading the previous novella. It wasn't too hard to figure out who everyone was, though, and the storyline stood on its own. I was very surprised that Ms. Armstrong had Malcolm Danvers interacting with the pack again, but it really worked. The mystery wasn't so much a mystery as just a plot to take us on a ride, but it was enjoyable none the less. Elena is definitely my favorite POV narrator and she didn't disappoint here. Now, off to catch up on the previous installment of the story!

Anya has abilities she can't explain and a mentally-slow man/boy she has taken under her wing to care for. On the run, yet again, she comes to Santiago City and hopes the Dark wont follow her. Fate leads her to the Rowangrove and the three witches who happen to be the Guardians of the City. Anya lacks self-esteem and is so timid, scared and skittish, it's imposable to do or say anything in case she bolts. She has a huge trust issue. Even though she has finally met women like her who swear to keep her safe and teach her about herself and men who's whole purpose in life is to protect said women, she doesn't really trust them and constantly expects them to be mad and throw her out. Arrrrggggg! I just want to shake her senseless and start over.

Jack wasn't much better. Typical "I don't deserve..." type that makes me want to tell him to man up and grow a pair. The romance that popped up between these two, though expected, came out of nowhere and I didn't really feel it.

Sigh. The characters in the previous books were annoying, but this one topped it. I really have no interest in reading the last book in this series.

Review: I adore this series, but I think this installment might be my favorite one yet. Colin and Penelope have been acquaintances for years, especially since Penelope is best friends with his sister. Penelope has also secretly been in love with Colin all that time. When we start this book, Penelope has grown into herself. No longer is she the shy wallflower, but the confident spinster. Colin and her become friends, and Colin can't help but fall in love with her. The proposal came out of nowhere, but I loved it anyway. I seriously could not stop laughing throughout the whole proposal scene. And Colin's declaration of love at the end - absolutely perfect. Also, we find out the identity of a pretty important character in this book. I have to say I was shocked because I didn't suspect this person at all. Loved how the reveal all played out.

I'm thankful that Ruso and Tilla have returned to Britiannia and was glad to see a few familiar characters return. The mystery was a bit more tense and the bad guys were more cutthroat than in previous books. This is possibly to do with the underlying motivation (greed) being more cold-hearted and the fact that there are infants and baby-making conversations going around. The mix feels dangerous and ominous.

I'd almost say the ending was rushed, but I know that's just me.... pushing deadlines per usual. :/
