Section 2

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Chapters 5-8.

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling things for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later chapters/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

Kat | 1178 comments Well, this whole section was a bit depressing. It felt like one defeat after the other. And I didn't like them ending up huddled in a swamp.

Then Alfred getting himself into trouble going to Cippenham. What the hell, dude, do you have a death wish?

And just when I thought this can't get any worse, RAGNAR!!!

Can't stop long, need to read on, things are looking up! :)

Hmm. I guess the rest of us skipped right over this section. Alfred did seem pretty reckless.

Kat | 1178 comments Not surprised everyone skipped this. Nobody in their right minds would encounter Ragnar alive and then go "Yeah, I'll stop right here to collect my thoughts." I bet everyone immediately turned the page and read on!

I only stopped because my lighbulb blew and I needed a bathroom break.

Haha. Fair enough

Suzanne | 1582 comments Haha yeah I definitely went right on - I love Ragnar.

I remember being totally annoyed with Alfred in this section - I thought he was so stupid and reckless. (Still do.)

Kat | 1178 comments ....I read the rest of the book in one go (after changing the lighbulb), and there was no stopping me!

Sumant | 522 comments Some interesting things happening in these chapters, Uthred gets back into Alfred's good books by saving his life and his son's life.

He manages to burn all the Sven's ships for Alfred.

But if this is not enough the so called priests and monks of Alfred, advice him against trusting Uthred.

If I had been Uthred I would have surely betrayed Alfred to the Danes.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I would have too - seems like the Danes have treated Uthred much better than Alfred has.

Exactly my feelings.

Alfred doesn't deserve Uthred's loyalty.

I think the only reason he is sticking with him is due to Iseult's prophecy.
