70% in my Kindle. Hair-drying turned out to be a really useful moment to catch up!

Maureen Miller | 8 comments I just read the chapter on the '77 NWO Conference in Houston. WOW! Would have loved to have been at that event. Gratitude for all the women who were there. Gloria talked about the impact it had on her life - thinking about her life as 'before' and 'after' the conference. Powerful!

message 55: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Mercille | 1 comments I have the online version only at my university, and I just surveyed the intro so far. I look forward to starting it during the weekend! Gloria Steinem is mentioned in another book I have to read for class on the realignment of American politics during the 1960s and the fight for women's rights, and it just fueled my curiosity for the author's journey.

message 56: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne | 11 comments I'm on chapter 3. I think she was lucky to have such a good father who sounded to be laid back and understanding.
I highlighted a few things about Native American women because I am a Native from Canada. I am so glad Native people are mentioned in this book. :)
This is the first book by Gloria Steinam I bought and I love her, this was a great choice for the book club.

Ila Dickenson | 1 comments Reading about her interactions with Hilary Clinton in Chapter 5. 60% done already and so inspired.

message 58: by Alexandria (new)

Alexandria | 24 comments Halfway through and really enjoying it so far. I didn't know much about Gloria Steinem before this, so for me it's interesting to learn about all the things she's done.

I finished it! For now I don't really have the time to write a full review which I'll try and have ready in time for discussion. However, oh, man, I really enjoyed the book. Sure, it had its ups and downs - for example, I got a bit lost at the political campaigns chapter. Not really my cup of tea. It was interesting but I totally lack the knowledge on US politics and names. However, she gained me back towards the end of the book. She has had a truly inspiring life. It is a rather dense book if your read it the right way, so maybe not for everybody, but it definitely got me on track for more. :D

message 63: by Renee (new)

Renee Kanuri Gurrola | 1 comments I started reading it yesterday and even though I just started it, I am already loving it! I love the prelude because it makes us realize that we should not judge and through traveling and having an open mind, we can encounter incredible people. Through those people, we learn more about ourselves. This is just the beginning and it is already teaching me so much.

message 64: by Nadia (new)

Nadia Haidar | 3 comments I'm on page 285 which I'm thrilled about because I haven't been able to finish a book for the past year. The writing is so great!

message 69: by Aimee (new)

Aimee | 2 comments I've got about 5 pages then the afterword left. This book has shown me (yet again) how little i know of the world i live in and the people i share it with. So many other activists that i'll do more reading on!!

Michele Cacano | 4 comments Oh, I'm all done...

message 71: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (gryffindorg33k) I just finished Chapter 4 last night, the chapter about cabbies and Flight Attendants. I had to put the book down and tell myself to go to sleep. It's so good.

message 72: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (bambarina) | 21 comments Hi, I read about this book club yday evening and ordered the book right away,I should have it by tuesday night/wed morning at least.

message 73: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgangriffin) I started this book and haven't gotten very far. The dedication to the doctor for performing an illegal abortion put a bad taste in my mouth since I do not believe in performing abortions for convenience. It made me distrust the author and not really want to know more about her. Maybe I'll pick it back up.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

t | 8 comments I got my book from the library last week and read the prelude and introduction. I am trying to read a few pages each night. I am a library media specialist in an elementary school and reading 2 fiction 4th grade novels at the same time so slow going. The book appears to be interesting at this point.
