Now he's a great writer! A little too spicy for some but one cannot help but love his writing style. Page turner. No slump in his stories.

Anyone want to discuss Barrington series in The Den? Oh, at our mansion, wimmen folk are allowed in any room they care. None of this wimmen retire to the salon where the men get to discuss the good stuff for you see, at the PI's mansion, wimmen often have as titillating topics of discussion as the men. Hrmp!

Ordered and received my copy of New York Dead. Now that's a first in a series book IMHO. No slump, fine writing. Visual, clues, suspense...page turner. Not usually the material I like to read but Woods' writing pulled me in. Enjoying it!

Jill Tool | 992 comments I have it on request at the library. And it says in transit so hopefully it'll be here this weekend or Monday. I'm in for this one

I like it, Jill but then I'm open to adult material (as you seem to be too) though one page made me blush. But blushing is good for the complexion, right? lol

Subject matter aside, this guy writes a good book. He dispenses facts, characters, material a bit at a time unlike another book I started reading and bam, too much dumped on reader in first two pages. I like a chance to get to know, like, hate characters. Anyway, I'm a fan. It'll be interesting to see what you think of book.

Nicole, I started reading him last year or so. A Stone Barrington L.A. or Beverly Hills title caught my interest. (Stone hangs out at Elaine's, a dinner club I believe that the likes of Jackie Kennedy etc. patronized. The author was/is a friend of Elaine's). Though it was mid-series, I'd no problem picking it up from there and became hooked on his storytelling prowess. Not usually subject matter I favor but something about his flow that makes a not so cozy topic become an easy read. Page turns for me anyway. See what you think should you tuck in.

They'd be great Anastasia. We miss you.

Though it is not PG-13, it does not dwell on colorful matter. More on case building, mystery solving. I think you'll like it.

Yey! I finally figured one whodunit. LOL Well, it is layered plotting...I won't go further with reveal. I'll save it for when we're closer to discussing wrap up.

PI's Ana and Jill...I loved the first one so much that I bought the 2nd and am page turning away on it. Sex is minimal but the stories are chock full of action. No waiting for suspense in his books. Love his writing.

Love the visual of Elaine's. Strikes an image of cigar clubs or restaurants ala Rat Pack era. A bit of the old, some of the new.

Who do you see playing Stone, Dino, Nat? Seems there's a slight age progression from book one to two so the characters appear different in my mind's eye. Maybe a John Hamm for Stone. I listed a few ideas on bookcaster but they seem so young compared to my original visual. But then everyone seems younger than me these days. When did that happen? I use to be the baby of the family and now I'm rapidly becoming an elder (sort of).

Finished 1 & 2. Wow, can this man write! Wish he did cozies as well for his projects are a bit risqué.

On reading some of the new material and comparing them to classic cozies, Christie had it right. She wrote cozies yet with substance. She concentrated more on mystery than on details. She is the queen of mystery. Many are close seconds.

Anyone read DIRT yet? Won't spoil but when you PI's do and have reached reveal/conclusion, I've a perp related question. Let me know when someone gets there. Enjoy. It's a good one.

While shopping B&N website, a book suggestion popped up with a title most intriguing: The Late Show by Michael Connelly. Looks like a good one and is the first in his new series. Anyone read it yet? I'm considering it. ;-) The Late Show (Renée Ballard, #1) by Michael Connelly

Just sharing info but if anyone did want to read it in future, let me know. I love Hollywood based, themed mysteries.
