Francesca Tripiedi | 4 comments I think it would be humanly impossible for her to read all the messages. Also, it would be nice just to be a book club and talk about books.

Hey, Emil. I just noticed that you have a bit of a typo in the title in that you called Miss Watson "Watsom" by mistake.

The 2015 New Years Eve Attacks in #Cologne (#Köln)
Oh I guess they have to do more important things...Like starting a bookclub...I guess women getting raped and sexually assaulted doesn't count on the Feminist list of priorities, I mean unless they can blame it on White Men..Then they are all in. Feminist are such liars and cowards. If anyone wishes to Learn more about the Attack against women in Cologne here is a great video link. Please everyone spread the information that extremist progressives are afraid to talk about. Everyone please reject Feminist ideology and become Humanist.

I think attacking someone who could not have by themselves prevented anything is why they assumed as such? Just because she started a book club here on Goodreads doesn't mean she is not for equal rights or is against equality and bringing an end to sexual assualt and events like what happened in Cologne, and getting mad just because she made a place for people to come together to talk, and learn more about feminism and find other people who share these desires for equality is wrong. She hasn't even been on here that much, its not like she is on GR 24/7 doing nothing but goofing off. This group is a place for people, male or female, who want equality, who want equal rights, to be able to come together and talk about it in a place where others feel the same. Some people might not have anyone to talk to about this anywhere else but here, so I don't think its very fair to blame all kinds of things just because this event happened? The Attacks are horrible, yes. But saying get rid of feminism, getting mad at Emma Watson for making the group, none of that is going to help matters any. Bringing people's attention to it will help, letting people know it happened and that it shouldn't have will help, finding ways to send support to those who were attacked will help.

And saying things like 'its feminist for not talking about it' is wrong. What if people didn't know about the incident? What if it's been kept low, under the radar by the news and press? Its not fair to blame feminism for something that people might not have been aware of, or to get mad at someone who makes a place for people to gather for not saying something as she might not have known about it either.

Then were is the feminist outrage against it??? all the main feminist think tanks are keeping quiet because they think if they even bring it up it will bring a racial slam down on them...And also they don't dare speak about it because the left democratic side is their bread and butter...This is a human rights issue and feminist are treating it like it's political and the news media is not talking about it either...That is the point and that is why I bash Feminist they need a reminder of what's important. sorry if you were offended by it...I don't want to attack individuals...

But that's just the thing. You just said the news media isn't talking about it. How could feminists know of or react to this if there is no awareness? If one of the main sources that many people learn of things is not speaking of it? You can't blame feminists for a lack of knowledge if a primary source of the knowledge is keeping their mouth shut, so to speak. Its unfair to bash people who don't know and it would be far better to enter with something more like bringing awareness so that people can be aware, can do something and can react.

All I ask is that Feminist talk about it, With the same rage and conviction that they talk about other issues in the past....This is a real rape culture and nothing has been said. I have seen more about this book club then about what happened on New Years Eve Attacks in #Cologne (#Köln)
Why are all of you feminist not talking about it??? This is real not just a slutwalk fun in the sun protest.

Well maybe you could try to bring awareness in a less accusatory and negative manner? I personally did not know of these attacks until you mentioned them, to be honest, and I'm certain there are other members who are the same.

Why not try to bring awareness in a more positive manner so people can help rather than feel offended? Make a topic about the Attack, state what people can do to help, how to raise awareness, how to send support to the people who were hurt by this.

Instead of assuming all these things, try to do something yourself that will bring positive attention instead of insulting people. You might find you get farther with honey than vinegar. This group is not just a book club but also to promote feminism and bringing this up in a nicer way would give it the attention it needs without you having to attack people who might know nothing about it.

Try a nicer approach, you might find more people will become aware or spread this if you're not attacking them and people they look up to like Miss Watson.

Jonathan (jonathandevink) | 32 comments James - Discussing things is what this club is for. Especially the books we will be reading, but also Feminism in general. So yes, you are entirely entitled to your opinion. And yes, you have freedom of speech.

I guess people are just not that keen on the way you choose to do it. The way you discuss things seems very polarizing. Maybe even insulting. Hating. This is just generally not very nice. There are much nicer ways to get your opinions across. I hope you are willing to try and learn.
Also, spamming every single thread with the same message is generally deemed not nice behaviour too, on the internet. Especially when most of those thread's subjects have nothing to do whatsoever with the discussion you are trying to have.

I hope to be able to discuss the books we will be reading with you in a polite and adult manner in the near future!
Jonathan

message 39: by Akhénaton (new)

Akhénaton Tournier | 10 comments James, you just need to realise that feminist didn't mean : "woman>man" but "woman=man".
So, for everything you pointed where the women have better treatment that men, the purposed of feminism is to equilibrated that, so people don't get judged by their sex, but who they're and what they do. It's not just for the bad things happening to women, but also for everything that happened to men just because they don't fit the roles that the society want us to have (strong, working, indépendant, never crying, etc...)

She is a speaker for HeForShe, If Feminism doesn't know about these attacks then they are doing a bad job at keeping up with events...I heard about these attacks form a Men's Rights video. It's odd that Men's Rights Groups care more then Feminist do....Not that I'm In The MRA. But I agree with them on a lot of issues. Maybe you everyone should look at different views...after all Feminism is not the only Human rights moment...In fact it is probably the worst.

message 42: by Kikki (new)

Kikki (kikki-not-kiki) Well, I've given my two cents and tried to explain. Out of fear of this just turning into an argument of people bashing on each other I'm going to refrain from saying anything further. I've not been frightened away or anything of the sort, I just do not wish to incite arguing on a website and in a group I hold much respect for.

I'll just leave it at this and only this;

You have your opinions, and that is awesome. I have different opinions that conflict but hey that's humans for you. Nothing more to be said.

James, if you hate feminism, maybe the best solution would be for you to bring these issues you think feminists can't deal with efficiently to the Men's Rights group or another Human Rights organisation. I guarantee you, feminism is about everyone being equal, and not women being superior to everyone, so we want to help with all the issues we can that can be used to promote the need for humans' rights and the equality of those rights. But if this small portion of the world's feminists is not dealing with things as competently as you hoped, we are sorry. At the very least I am, that we cannot deal with every issue simultaneously. Please take your criticisms elsewhere, or create a new thread and bring the issue to light in a POSITIVE MANNER rather than being accusatory like others have said. People will wish to have a civilised conversation about the problems the Cologne attacks raise, but will not want to talk to you about them if you bash their beliefs.

(I'm genuinely sorry if this in any way sounded passive-aggressive because it wasn't meant that way but I've been told that I generally come off that way.)

What a sexist quote. Why do you feel that it is ok to say girls should be valued above boys. Why do you think that is OK and not hate speech. And you talking about differentiating between children that is really srewed up . This is really misandry sexist thinking. This is why Feminism is hurting people any why people are rejecting it. Feminist feel that they have to devalue and tear down men and boys to build up themselves.
